What do ya think? This is my first delay pedal. I've wanted one for sometime and my local store got this in used last week ,so I went and researched it and went in today and got it! I was a little sketchy 'cause I have a MXR supercomp on order as well as a dunlop DC brick, but I said "screw it!" and went for it. My MXR should be arriving tomorrow or this week sometime, we have no idea on the power supply though. I picked up this bugger for $160 canadian including a BOSS power supply, origional box, even new batteries! Only thing I didn't get was the manual which I have on my computer anyways. So far its a great pedal but I haven't had much time to play with it and I'm a noob when it comes to delay pedals, I know how delay works but never owned a delay pedal before! so...

Can anyone give me some suggested settings? I'm going for a john petrucci type lead delay, not too exadurated but I don't want it to sound just like reverb either! So does anyone got any tips on a petrucci type delay? Or a gilmourish type delay?

I'll post more of a review type post or thread once I get more used to this thing, no point on trying to review it now! First impressions are great though! So just for fun I'd thought Id throw in a shot of my pedalboard (the board itself is almost complete, so bear with the bare wood, I'll definatly post pics when my other 2 things on order come in, then it will be complete!)

For Gilmour theres always Gilmourish.. im sure it has a few settings for delay pedals there.

For Petrucci..

EFFECTS CHAIN:
Clean Sound - basic chorus sound
Lead Sound - 602 and 460 millisecond delay with 3 repeats
Crunch - 26 milliseconds delay

Wow, heck of an entry into the world of delay. Watch out, it's a downhill slope from here. ;) As a delay newb, I encourage you to be mindful of the mix, that's the control that can turn a setting from useless to perfect in one twist.

I always like an analog setting with about 250ms of delay time, around three repeats and once again, set the mix to taste. Play some fluid neck pickup lines and see how it suits you. Also, you can tap the tempo to quarter notes and get great results.

That pedal is the next best thing to a DL-4.

Great purchase, bro. Enjoy.

IMHO, Boss delays are some of the best out there. Digital whatever the hell they sound great! Good buy!

I'm intrigued by that pedal board -- looking forward to seeing it done

Thank you!

As for the pedalboard, the bottom is flat and the tops are slanted, I can't wait to get 'er finished! Got a quick question: I got a Dunlop DC brick on order, will it be able to power this? I think it should but just wanted to check with any first hand experience!

Yes it is a big one for a first, but I couldn't pass up on it. So far its been great, heres some quick conclusions I found:

-overall, best in the loop
-works a BIT better for clean infront of the amp but still works great in the loop
-the delays are a BIT louder infront of the amp
-reverse function pretty much needs to be infront of the amp to get that "reverse only" sound
-sounds like crap with distortion when infront of the amp

So basically its going in the loop for my stack, but I'm playing with it infront of my practice amp since it doesnt have a loop. Best is in the loop (
with EQ after), the only thing I would put it infront for would be if I was using reverse, but theres no need for that in my metal band so thats ok! Itll be saved for recording-only of my solo side project!

Please keep the comments coming!

This may be your first delay, but it will surelybe your last. Read the manual to figure out how to optimize the pedal functions and to change to level for placement in your loop. On many pedals, it is a matter of flicking a switch or two; on this, you have to press a combination of buttons and flip through some menus. Right now I have mine connected to the effect loop of my DJ mixer with a Boss FS-5U connected for tap tempo functions.
