New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

Re: New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

no such critter as a blonde 3x10" Bandmaster, only a piggyback 1x12"---the 3x10" model was discontinued after the 1960 brown...

ya, i was guessing as the photos i've seen are poor.... there is very few and fuzzy photos of that amp Pete used..... some video of him using it in the studio era 1985/6 with the sunburst vintage strat he got from Clapton

Re: New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

a blonde 3x10 could be a vibroking which pete used to use

He still has about 10 Vibrokings in his collection... uses 4 on stage these days 2 as back ups... all have extenetion cabs under them too.. Claims to keep one in his living room with his extrememly expensive furnature as he likes the way they look...

But ya the Fender amp Joe Walsh gave him in 1971 was a Bandmaster.... Late 50's early 60's....

Re: New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

Man, I used to have a '65 Bandmaster that was KILLER!
The jumpered channels definitely adds some fullness and volume.
My favorite thing was having the capacitors swapped. Stock is 70uf, I believe and mine was swapped to 100uf, so it had more clean headroom and sounded bigger than when it had 70's and 80's in it. Cool mod. Put a Mesa V-Twin in front and plugged into a good 2x12 cab (or 2x15 Showman cab) and you've got a killer setup that will cover most anything and not cost a fortune.

nice! i've got an old blonde Bandmaster and that thing kills!

Man I just cringe whenever I see a Fender amp on a Marshall cabinet, or Marshall amp on a Fender cabinet. :nono:
BTW, how come blackface Bassman heads are more expensive and in demand?

This is an old thread but in responce to the last question, Bassman amps are more money and more in demand because quite frenkly they sound better to most players...they have a little more gain and will crunch a liitle better...ONN Reverb Blackface Fenders are weak and limp sounding when compared to their reverb counterparts or to Bassman amps...

Re: New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

Still have mine, still use it...I think it's a great amp for cleans.

I was about to faint dead away until I read the last two words in your post. I thought "How could TGWIF call a Bassman weak?!?!?!?!!!!" :eyecrazy::banghead: :oh: :scratchch :ok:

Took me a bit but I'm ok now LOL.. :ok:

Re: New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

I have a '63 transitional BF/blonde Tremolux, which is pretty similar to the '64 Bandmaster. The channels are in phase, so you can jumper them. For a cool spin on that try running a delay or reverb pedal (or even an OD pedal) in the loop between channels (i.e., gtr > Ch1-in1 > Ch1-in2 > pedal > Ch2-in1. Totally, tonally integrated sonic goodness...

Hi, i'm Andrea from Italy.
Excuse me if i pick up an old thread, but i just bought a '65 BF Bandmaster and i wanted to try this (to put the delay between the normal and the vibrato channel).
If i bridge the channels without the pedal between them, i got no problem. Everything works. But when i put the pedal between the channels only the Normal settings works (Volume, Treble and Bass) and the pedal doesn't effect the sound.
Can someone explain me this and help me?
Thank you very much
Andrea

Re: New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

welcome to the forum!

sounds like an issue with the pedal. does the pedal work normally? do both channels work on their own?

it might be better to start a new thread rather than jump into the end of this old one.

Well, that was true. It was an issue to the pedal. Thank you for the welcome and the answer, now it works.
I'd like to ask another question.
I got this amp from a guy who lives 200km away from my house and the amp has only one issue: the vibrato don't works. The volume, bass and treble knobs of the vibrato channel works and the channel it's ok, it's only that the effect don't work. The guy who sold me the amp said that he will repair it for me and he will pay for it, but for me it's really uncomfortable to take the amp to him because it's far; and so, what do you think about it? Do you think it's a cheap thing to get repaired? Maybe it's worth paying for it and don't travel to him.

What about cranking the amp? To my ears the Normal channel cranks at lower volume than the Vibrato but everyone tell me that's not true.

Chopstherocker's is amazing with a uhh Tubescreamer was it? in front of it.

Hell yeah :D Find a silverface faceplate. Cause silverfaces look cooler :smokin:

No Way!! Nothing looks better or sounds better than a blackface. Silverface looks cheap.

Re: New amp day: 1964 Fender Bandmaster

Yeah, check your tubes. Could be as simple as replacing the tube for the vibrato. Probably a 12AX7. Ten bucks and ten minutes and you're in heaven.

Many years ago I had a '66 blackface BM. Man, do I regret the day I got rid of it. The head plus the 2x12 cab cost a total of $350 brand spanking new.
