New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

Picked up this Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue today for a sweet deal! Its also an older 90's USA made model. I'm really digging it! Even at 22watts it is pretty loud, and I like pushing it just to the edge of breakup. Its just a little bright, so I might try a different speaker and maybe do the bright cap mod.

I love it!

A young man after my own heart!

The bright cap mod makes a HUGE difference, try that before a different speaker.

That said a speaker change can transform that amp into a beast!

A Celestion G12H30 will go a long way in that amp and an Eminence Cannabis Rex is also a popular choice for a reason!

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

WOOT! DRRI hell yeah!
Congratulations brother!!!

Yes, the bright cap mod is 100% worth doing (makes the vibrato channel take pedals better!)

Speaker swaps go a long way to improving the tone. I put a 25W greenback clone in mine. It breaks up with the amp on about 7. Cannabis Rex would be the next thing I'd want to try, or a G12H30

Dunno if you've looked up much else for things you can do but I've had my DRRI for a lil while and have got to know it
these amps are easy to bias and very much benefit from that
you can remove the 12ax7 from the first tube of whatever channel you're not using (i.e. remove v1 if you're using the vibrato channel) for a small gain boost. Put a 12ax7 in the PI for a bit more crunch a bit earlier on the dial.

anyways congrats again!

Ok sweet, I will give that a try! Yeah, I have been thinking about putting either a WGS ET-65, a Eminence Cannabis Rex, or a WGS G12C or G12C/S. I will check out the Celestion G12H30 too.
NICE!!
I use a G12H Anniversary in my SS 20:)
Thanks! And ok awesome!

Haha Thanks bro! And awesome, I'm glad to hear that the bright cap mod will really improve it. And thanks for all of the info. I will check all of that out.

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

Btw, this one has one of the Fender labled Eminence speakers in it... not really sure how they compare to the speaker in the new DRRI, never played one before.

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

yeah most people seem to prefer just about any decent aftermarket speaker to the eminence "special design" speaker.

New ones come with a jensen c12K which a lot of people don't like either

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

Also, just wondering... Until I get a different speaker, I have an Eminence Screamin Eagle in another amp that I am going to be getting rid of... Do you think the Screamin Eagle would be an upgade from the stock speaker or would it be too bright for this amp?

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

the screamin eagle might be a bit too bright. Sometimes I wonder what amp they were using when they designed that speaker. Just promise me you won't use any vintage strat single coil bridge pickups on it ;)

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

Lol well I played with the stcok speaker, then put the Screamin Eagle in and played with it for a bit, then I put the stock speaker back in for another comparison. I the the Screamin Eagle actually might be warmer than the stock speaker, but I don't know if I want to full with swapping the speaker AGAIN right now lol

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

interesting.

and yeah I hate having to pull the whole amp apart to get to the speaker. One of the chassis bolts on mine will only bite in the hole if the whole thing is positioned *just so*.

Have you messed with the tremolo yet? Let me know if yours "ticks" like mine does

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

I've read dudes saying that they didn't have ticking in their BFDR or DRRI or that it could be corrected sometimes by proper lead dress or some crap. I dunno just thought I'd check tho.

you can't hear it when you play anyways :)

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

Those amps sound so damn good. I think they sound like old Silverface Fenders.
Yeah, its definitely a nice sounding amp.

Hmm I haven't really messed with the trem much, I still need to get a footswitch for it.

My main goal for this amp is to make it as pedal friendly as possible. I'm having a hard time deciding which speaker lol

Re: New Amp Day: Another Fender :)

To be really pedal friendly I'd look for a speaker with less breakup unless you're going for that. cannabis rex or weber 12f150 for if u wanna maximize the fender flavor... G12H30 probably for brit flavored overdrive pedals.

or get the c12k for that PGS bone-stock DRRI sound... which is a little bright but it seems to suit some things very nicely. I sometimes regret losing my c12k (twas stolen)
