Just picked this up almost new off Ebay- what a fun amp! It really nails the classic Marshall tones at a manageable home level at 5 watts. The 1 watt mode is a bit muddled but good for bedroom use. Absolutely nails the AFD tone in spades when used with a Les Paul. Clean is beautiful for a Marshall- very Marshall Jubilee . Dirty is pure rock Marshall but not necessarily a one trick pony-I plan on getting an AB switch to switch between input 1 and 2 since one channel has a little more saturation

Very cool. Interesting to hear the 1w mode isn't "all that," as i would be curious to give that feature a whirl!

Congrats!! Id sure love to play thru one! I was very interested in these when they came out cuz of the tube config.

I literally almost bought this very amp like 4 days ago but I opted for a Big Headroom Amp instead??? Very cool though, I think I'm still going to pick up a 5W Marshall at some point, but I couldn't decide if I should go with that one or a Class 5? The Class 5's "Plexi" tones would work better for what I want out of the amp but keep us posted as how you like it. It's definitely intriguing!!!!

Congrats. I wish I had gotten one of those when they were widely available. Glad I still have my Class 5.

Mind telling us what you paid for it?

Re: New Amp Day- Marshall SL5 Slash

I love mine. Great little amp. Sounds big. I exclusively use the 1 watt mode. I find it has more compression and squish. I run mine at about 1/2 gain with a tubescreamer in front of it.

Re: New Amp Day- Marshall SL5 Slash

I paid $575 plus $50 shipping. No footswitch or cover as others are selling theirs with.

The 5 watt/1 watt switch is acting up, I'll have to pop it open to see if it's a loose connection

I was thinking along these lines too, assuming it was my beloved Class 5 with a 12" and a high gain channel. I was wrong. I didn't like the SL5 i played. The clean channel is too clean and the gain channel was too gainy. No warm rock crunch to be had anywhere, just too clean or too dirty. I can see why some players like that setup, but it's not for me.

I actually pre ordered the Marshall Mini Jubilee since it has the 20 watt mode that can be cut to 5, but the SL5 was half the price with the tone I was looking for

Re: New Amp Day- Marshall SL5 Slash

Ha!! I just sold mine on Craigslist about three weeks ago.

It's a great little amp, but I rarely if ever played through it.

Re: New Amp Day- Marshall SL5 Slash

I'm a big fan of the class 5. A lot of them had rattle issues, though, so beware. Mine has a rattle to it but honesly i've grown used to it. If i were using it for recording, it could be a big deal, but i just use it as a casual practice amp so it's fine. I like how it's light, convenient, and sounds nice. Can be a bit dry w/o a reverb, though. With sone pedals the stash infront of it, it is great.

Re: New Amp Day- Marshall SL5 Slash

I put a wah in front of my class 5, maybe an analog delay with the mix set low, and *maybe* a BD-2 or a TS-9. That's it. The sound you get is rock and roll with a Strat or a Les Paul (or a Tele). :cool3:
