I got a new amp today.

Re: I got a new amp today.

Funny guy.

But those new code 100 models suck bad from what I've gathered. I haven't played one myself.

Re: I got a new amp today.

So many questions and options here:

The website that has the modules only has 3 in stock.... F.
I Can't seem to dig any more up from any source. $136 for 4 modules.

OR I could just buy the chips, they're like 11 bucks each and either solder them in myself... (Risky)
Or take the modules to my local music shop guy and pay him to do it. Cheap!

Then if I get it running.... Do I keep it and never trust it and always be concerned about it?
OR sell it off?

I suppose knowing what I now know about these amps, I could just be very careful with it's operation.....

I could sell it off for $200 as a broken amp and still be good with that, the way that whole deal went down...

I do enjoy a challenge and learning more about amps and how they work.

My old Peavey sounded pretty good the other night ha ha ha less headaches for sure.

Some one experienced in soldering would be the go, those multi pin chips can be difficult. The ceramic resistors not so hard but they need to be done too [ I'm going to keep stressing this ]

Re: I got a new amp today.

I was going to congratulate you on your new amp. Maybe I will just hold off for a bit.:scratchch

Re: I got a new amp today.

So I think I'm going to order parts and let someone else solder them in. I'm good with pups and pots, but ya these multi pin things look difficult.

These are what I ordered.
Plus some fuses.

I'll post up the amp working again, hopefully in the next couple weeks.
Cool.

The resistors are actually .1 OHM = OR1
Please don't ignore this or you may waste all your effort. I'd explain electronically why but I doubt you'd understand, but it is critical.

If you can't find 7 watt ones , ten watt ones will work.

Re: I got a new amp today.

I'm still trying to locate those bad boys....
I will follow your recommendation.

Re: I got a new amp today.

Alright here's my next question: and it may be a dumb one but here goes...

All I can find in these have the wire just poking out the end.

Whereas the ones in the amp have a different look to them, the leads stick out the bottom....

So..... Do I just order regular ones? Because the solder guy can just bend them and solder them in place, OR do they have to be just like the ones one the board now, and he'll have to order those dang things because I can't seem to find them?

Re: I got a new amp today.

I would think that the wires could be bent as long as the value is the same.

Re: I got a new amp today.

You could do that. The 10 watt ones might be longer though and not fit next to each other, without a bit of mounting creativity.

Re: I got a new amp today.

Ha ha Thanks! it DID fit there just perfectly. Really happy with it. It's funny I absolutely love Possessed, but I haven't ever learned a single one of their songs... I mostly play Candlemass, Slayer, and Dokken on this axe, tuned half step down

Candlemass.... Wow, hadnt heard of them in a year or twenty.... As far as your axes, the blue Dean is still my fav.. I wanted one of those when they did the run. Just didnt have the funds..

Were you playing Kix on through the amp when you blew the fuse??? Sorry, just had to say it.. I hope its fixable and glad the seller was a stand up dude..

Re: I got a new amp today.

Got the amp to the local amp whisperer. We talked about it's special-ness. He seemed to understand pretty well.

We'll know in a few days if it works again.

Re: I got a new amp today.

This just in:

Amp guy called today.
I ran 44 minutes up to his shop.
He told me stories of how this could be designed better, how it's been repaired 3x now, since he could count the layers of heat grease.
He claims that is probably the biggest problem, too much grease on there from techs in the past.
Good call GoldenV

He Told me that Shure makes 600w chips that he could mod to fit this amp, making it a super beast and more reliable.

I told him if it runs, I'm selling it straight away.

He said it all tested it out well, and those resistors were perfect.

Said he had it running on the bench for a few hours and by the way, "this amp sounds flat out amazing!" This coming from a tube snob made me feel pretty good about that part at least.

It took him twice as long as he thought it would, saying these mod boards are worn out from resoldering chips to them.

Anyhow.... I hooked it up.... Rather nervous I must say to click the power on..... If it blows up again, I'm out another $200....

Video uploading. . . . Keep your fingers crossed boys! Could be Sparks or fire headed your way.
