New Amp Day, New Pedal Day, New Demo

The Amp: Morgan RCA35 and 1-12 cab. Bought to support new record and live gig I just landed.
A wonderful class A cross between Fender/Vox and Dumble (true). This one is using KT66s but can accept a wide variety of tubes.

If you are not familiar with Joe Morgan and his amps, its worth checking into. Alot of session players and sidemen getting hip to these amps.

The pedal: My friend Rob at Ethos sent me one of the first Ethos Clean pedals last month and it has not left the board since. Its a magic box that I predict will put Ethos on more professional boards than ever before.
I am absolutely smitten with it. It's my new always on pedal and my tone is consistent gig to gig. Musical, versatile and the soft clip is the sweet distortion heard on this clip.

The Demo: Sketch ideas of a 60 pop tune arranged for blues. I always sketch out guitar and vocal ideas before recording. Sometimes for months. These are a few ideas from today. The instrumentation is just placeholder stuff.

The tone is one tone, just using my guitar volume knob for the dynamics.
Morgan Amp-Ethos Clean-Topanga Reverb- ES-335 Neck position.

Thank you bro! Appreciate the post~

It is nice to find some musical alternatives to vintage Fender for touch sensitive, low-wattage amps built this well. Stable, and robust with excellent components. And Joe uses Mercury transformers on all his amps.
The classic Soul, Blues amp tones are harder to get than it seems. The amp is so responsive and lively, hard to capture on tape. The Ethos clean is a wonderful support.

Cheers,

RG

Excellent vocals. Obviously the guitar tone/playing is great, but the vocals are what really shine through on that track, imo.

I can't even bring myself to hate you, that is so awesome.

That is the tone I have always had in my head, but not so much from my fingers!

I'm serious, that was really inspirational. If I didn't have to go to work, I'd be playing all day trying to approximate that sound on my 339.

LOL> Thats, cool. Thank you Brian. The vocals were sang so I had the platform for the amp. Glad you enjoyed the tone.

Thank you bro, appreciate the good words! Inspirational is pretty awesome to hear. Hey, low gain, neck pickup, fingertips and pick...and the Ethos clean.
Winning combo!~

Winning formula

Agreed Cam. If you notice my demos are always that way also. One tone with volume and tone knobs for changes and variation. It forces you to find amps, pedals, pickup height, pots etc to support that level of dynamics. Incredibly happy with the Morgan. Simple and toneful. Still using an EP boost pedal and I have the JHS Morning glory for additional gain for a couple of Robben Ford tunes we are covering. Cheers

You've got a great sound man. Nice work.
Cheers~ Thanks Andrew.

Sounds great.
Cheers.

I love how you got just the slightest breakup in that song.
Thank you. The soft clip on the Ethos is clearly very old tube amp breakup vibe going on. Its a pleasure to use.

Cheers,

RG

That sounded killer! I've seen those amps around but never played one; will have to give it a test drive. :)

Re: New Amp Day, New Pedal Day, New Demo

Whoa Nelly.....very nicely done.!
Of course, I am into "traditional" type Blues.
Guess it has already been said, but.....I dig the way you sing and play. If I were trapped in a car for 2 hours, I would not mind listening to you guys play for the duration.
Yeah, Joe builds nice stuff. A bit slow lately...but he makes great gear, and is a nice guy.
He was one of the first (maybe the first) modern builder to use that (I could look up the spelling but i am too lazy) "Chilawhich" covering. It has a Very Nice look to it.!
You say you are in the studio.....do you guys have any video available.?
Thanks for posting.
Good Luck My Friend
let me edit this.....YOU did not say you were in the studio...said you were supporting a new record, and live gig. Any videos of THAT.?
Thanks Again

Gracias Ben! Too many amps, not enough time bro! LOL. Its my first lower watt head / cab combo. I have really enjoyed toting the two components separately.

Agrees with the Hoss :D

Thank you~. Appreciate the good words! And yes, the amp sounds phenomenal. Glad you dig the classic sound. Me too! Video? That is a smart idea. I am going to document some of my process this time around. That would be cool.
As for studio, well I am working on tracks 'pre production' like this one. Sketching out parts. When it comes to album work, there is no band. Only for live. I am one of those detailed oriented play all of the instruments / produce all of the tracks myself kind of guy. But well see.

There is another producer besides myself I would like to employ this time around and a great piano player. Just play it by ear, literally.

Very, Very, Very Nice!
Thanks bro!

Have a great weekend friends~

Cheers, RG
