New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

Man, I was so excited to get a great deal on a Fender Twin Amp (earlier version with 2 inputs/no tremolo) and begin my journey into classic, low-gain tones. I've been ampless for 2 months and couldn't wait to dial in that roots rock overdrive and strum some big chords. The songwriting possibilities felt absolutely endless.

Then, this happened.

I'm not even going to try turning it on. Thankfully, I'm getting a full refund. The hunt continues.

Yikes, that's an awful hard knock. I wonder if the packing could have been better?

Sent from my chromed robot turd, using the miserable junk code known as crapatalk.

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

Yeah, kinda surprised they don't put Styrofoam around all the corners for shipping. That said, it's not surprising considering that you were shipping via OOPS.

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

The top corners were the only parts not well-insulated, and that one paid the price. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with something shipped through UPS; I've had fantastic luck with many shipments over the last 10 years. Disappointing, but Guitar Center is doing the right thing.

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

I have been increasingly frustrated with the lack of care UPS takes with its packages. I had damage to a cabinet I recently received and about a year ago I had a similar issue.

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

Man, that has got to be one of the most disappointing things that can happen to a guitar player. Nothing stings quite like expectations not met.

Well, Everything happens for a Reason ... maybe the amp you are meant to have is just round the corner! :)

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

Good thing you got a refund. It's highly likely that the transformers and speaker magnets were bent off center as well.

I hate UPS. They must hire the lowest level employees possible.

Fedex only.

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

I had a Marshall limited series amp shipped to my house UPS...when it got to the house the box was so damaged I could see the amp through the box. Some jerk even had his size 12 boot print on top of the box. I'll never ship anything of value UPS. So frustrating...how can these guys keep their jobs?

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

About 10 years ago, I sold my 1987 to puckboy here on the forums. I had the thing packed immaculately with way beyond plenty of cushion. UPS still destroyed it. Super frustrating for both of us. It was a killer amp that served me for years (and still best amp I have ever owned).

Sorry to hear, and good luck.

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

That sucks, dude! I hope you find what you're looking for and glad GC is doing the right thing!

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

Bummer! sorry to hear this bro! The shipping cos are prolly all about the same. Ascension sold me a guitar once and shipped it via DHL ( IIRC) and the thing took quite a beating getting to me. UPS once left a 2x12 cab I bought outside my front door in the rain. I worked 2 jobs and since it was dark when I got home, I didnt see it, so didnt get it till the next day and the box was so wet it was falling off. Thank God it was ok. On the other hand... One time I bought a guitar from some guy and the bozo wrapped a couple of wraps of tape around the case and put a shipping label on it. I expected a case full of toothpicks, but luckily it was perfect.. go figure

Re: New Amp Day! Thanks, UPS!

I took it to my local guitar center yesterday to get my refund, and we tried to play through it for the hell of it. Sure enough it would power up but no sound would come out. What a shame, as it was in MINT condition.

THE PLOT THICKENS!

So in my continued hunt for a new amp, I'm on GC's used gear database and I see something quite peculiar.

Exhibit A:
Oh wow, another pro tube twin! Just like the one I had bought from Michigan and returned to Whitehall, here in PA. Hey, it's at that store, too! What a coincidence!

Hang on a sec, that item number sure looks familiar. Let me check my papers OH GOD

What?! Well, maybe they fixed a ruined tube combo with a broken cabinet, smashed jewel bulb and no sound output in just a couple of days. The would have another twin cab laying around, I'm sure. It definitely looks nice!

Oh, that's the same photo the Michigan store had on their listing, too. (Had to blow it up from my order email, but it's obvious)

Now, I'm wondering. They can't be serious about selling this amp again, as it was JACKED (see original post). I'm wondering though, was it already smashed before I ever bought it, and that apparently stock photo was used to dupe me? Are they hoping to sell this thing over and over until some one doesn't care to bring it back, hopes to fix it themselves, and GC keeps their money? Whatever is going on, I think it kinda stinks.

It would be fun if some one that sees this gave the Whitehall store a call and asked about the amp; what kind of shape it's in, any issues, when they might have gotten it in, etc. I'd be delighted to hear what they say.
