My new amp, a '96 Marshall 1987x plexi... got a nice deal on ebay. Very clean for a 13 year old amp. Drake transformers, JJ EL34L's. Sounds great, but I'm going to put a PPIMV in it so I can turn it up without knocking small birds out of the air...

I've wanted one of these for so long, and decided finally to stop trying to emulate the tone with pedals, and just go for the real thing.

Get a 100k Dual ganged linear pot and some wire and rig that puppy up. Not too difficult. I have a wiring diagram for you to use if you need it.

Well I got the Lar/Mar post-phase inverter master volume installed, and I was a bit worried that it was going to affect the "plexi-ness" of the amp at lower volumes, but... it rocks! I'm thrilled with the tone I'm getting out of this now, even at very low output. It's EXACTLY what I was looking for. Best master volume mod I've heard on any amp.

WOW! NICE!.....as you know,there's a reason these are one of the most emulated amps ever......congratulations on finally scoring what you've always wanted!
