Also, peavey should get a tighter bass and less bright sound out of the 5150. maybe a new version, 5150 III(the metal one)

Are you sure yours is biased properly? My 5150 has an awesomely tight bass (resonance 5) and its not really that bright unless you have the presence right up (i use presence at 6), I have a MK1 though so i dont know about the 5150II amps.

Re: New amp for metal

Hails Ryan.. i didn´t play the 5150 MK1(SAME AS YOURS) enough, and mine isn´t biased. and stock tubes.
Q:(
i´m gonna test it in another studio
cause in my room , iitr has so much reflectibve sounds and reverb from the ambience.. its bad. i guess its that the problem.
also, i was playing it with a Guitar with stock qm1 and qm2 ibz pickups and tuned to E standard. ahahahah

Ahh ok, get it biased with some nice JJ 6L6's, oh and replace the Preamp valves with JJ too (or High Gain Harma ECC83's), its worth it.

Re: New amp for metal

Yah, i don´t have a guy here to do the re bias stuff.
but i can re tube it. i contacted the guy at eurotubes, he recomended me some hot tubes that will warm things up and Tighten things up, without rebiasing.
i m just wondering, how to pull out the 5 tubes thats hidden in the back of the amp. ahahahah the four visible ones i guess i know how to pull out.

Unscrew the backplate and take it off, grip the valves firmly and just pull them out, shouldent be no trouble :).

Re: New amp for metal

i would be completely happy to buy another amp that sounded just like it so long as it gave me the extra flexability. I love the 5150.

I don't know jack about amps really, but just from what I've read in this thread maybe you should look into the uberschall and see if you can find one in the area.

Ive never once seen a Bogner in all of britain, granted that i havent actually intentionally looked but there are no dealers here in britain (that i am aware of), im slightly worried about buying an amp without trying it.

Hails ryan.. well.. we have the same cab
4 celestion g12 t 75 right?

Yes Same cab, i also use it sometimes with a 5150 cab, the 5150 cab sounds tighter and more aggresive, tends to have more mid frequencies and sounds better for agressive riffs, the Marshall cab has a "fatter" sound, sounds way better for clean and big long distorted chord sections (held out chords rather than "chugs"), the Marshall cab doesnt cut through as much with solo's either, both cabs are nice and i cant chose which i prefer.

I found this:

Re: New amp for metal

They have no bogners for sale in any of their shops, i havent phoned them yet but i suspect i would have to buy before i try (and wait quite a while for the order to come through), anyhow their shops are in scotland, i have no way to get to scotland :smack:

Maybe its best to stick with amps that are more readily available to me.

but thanks :smokin:

Re: New amp for metal

Yeah, Guitarguitar have just become the sole UK distributor for Bogners. The other guitarist in my band priced a Shiva combo with Steve, the manager of the Newcastle store. We get a decent discount (being good customers and all that!:smokin: ) and the price to us was £1800.
He didn't price an Uberschall but based on the difference between US Shiva prices and Uberschall prices, you'll probably be looking at around £2k - £2.5K mark. That is just a guess mind.............:27:

Thanks :), £2500 is way too much, my limit is about £2000, i cant really see myself getting a bogner, too much fuss and too much money :chairfall .

Even the Engl SE is a bit over my budget.

Ryan.

Re: New amp for metal

The savage SE is going under 3000EUR in germany these days:

3 000 Euros = 2 053.97825 British pounds
But I remember that I saw it for under 2K€ but dunno where

Those ENGL SEs are awesome, i've had a bit of a mess with one, it was huge sounding. Wish I could afford somethine like that, just picked up an 80s Laney Pro Tube for £100, seems like a bargain to me.

Don't rule out using an OD pedal. I've never heard an amp NOT sound better with one in front.

Seriously, this logic pisses me off. Most people will say "I don't want to use active pickups and overdrive pedals, I don't like the way they sound." List some records that you really enjoy the guitar sound of. Surely you DO like the way they sound infront of an amp, I bet you anything the record's you'd list would include it at least once.

Go get 'em, DSS3!
