new amp GAS need help

ehdwuld

A Ficus
ok first of all
I DO NOT NEED another amp
I have several very nice amps of various sizes
I have
Carvin Tweed Belair tube 50 watt
Laney GC80A Solid State Acoustic/Electric 80 watt
Roland Cube 30 Solid State Modeling 30 watt
Digitech modeling pedal (whole bunch of models that sound nice)
a pair of Tech21 Character series clones (Joyo versions)

but with the Bad Cat thread
and my buddy found a Peavey Classic 30 on sale last week for $399

now I'm looking at amps and wanting one
I don't need one
just kinda gassin'

so I have ben looking at the Vox Valvetronic series
the VT20, VT40, VT80

the power scaling is kinda nice
where the 20 watt will actually scale up to 30 watts
or down to 5 watts for practice

kinda nice to be able to carry the same amp to practice and the gig
(the VT80 is only 31 pounds and goes up to 120 watts)

I'm thinking at most gigs one would have a mic infront of the amp
so you probably wouldn't need over 40 watts for practice with a drummer

anyone else kinda just gassing over these threads?

we need a support group
:2:
and guys

I want you to know

I'm here for ya

I know what your going through

Yes you do, just do it. You are thinking about it, pull the trigger.

Re: new amp GAS need help

Of course you need one. It's time to own up to it!
Admission is the first step to recovery. :D

Re: new amp GAS need help

i needed another amp like a gunshot wound but it didnt stop me from pulling the trigger. dont be a sally, just buy it and quit your sniveling

Re: new amp GAS need help

Hey if you don't need an amp, why not play what you have for now...

...and while playing, save up for a dream amp that you may particularly want?

A big part of the reason GAS exists (unless you're a collector) is because your current gear doesn't satisfy.

Then people go out and buy something cheap just to satisfy their GAS.

But it's only a temporary fix... after the newness wears off, GAS returns.

Lots of guitarists fall into this trap, and gear manufacturers are well aware of it.

Better to wait a while to save up for a holy grail piece of equipment than to wallow in an ever-changing sea of mediocre gear.

Re: new amp GAS need help

Holy grail gear is way over rated...more killer music than you can imagine was created and recorded on gear that is SOLIDLY in the mediocre camp. If you have the coin and nobody else cares, get something new. New stuff is fun, and might just inspire you to play more.

Re: new amp GAS need help

Yea I keep thinking it's the gear
Probably just need to practice more

Re: new amp GAS need help

well, hell, we all know thats the truth. everyone besides guthrie govan, tommy emmanuel and sonny landreth needs to practice more. ok, thats a very partial list, but you get my point. that has nothing to do with buying gear.

Bingo.

I play through basically one amp now - a 1974x lite iib that sounds amazing. Fenders get better cleans and a plexi or jcm800 would have better drive tones, but for a steely raw sound with light breakup it's just so good. It feels like it amplifies mistakes so along with my telecaster it's like being in a knife fight with a meth head.

After playing through it one weekend with my pg-loaded les Paul and my JD equipped telecaster I came to the realization that other amps might sound better but this one sounds like exactly what you put in. In other words, it sounded like me. That was the point my amp GAS died down significantly.

New stuff does inspire you to play more IMO. Especially new effects. You can get to that point of gear saturation and you have too much gear to properly maintain and care for. At that point you are more of a collector. I am not saying being a collector is a negative thing. It all depends on what your personal goal is for acquiring gear. It does make it easier to manage a giant cashe of gear if someone else is maintaining it for you.

Re: new amp GAS need help

id be happy with one of those flame tops and one of the guilds

Re: new amp GAS need help

You ALWAYS need more guitars and amps. But I hardly consider the Vox VT series as amps(at least not amps worth owning). The only thing they are good for is creating GAS for something better.

Maybe consider an Egnater or Tubemeister.

Re: new amp GAS need help

I played the 40 watt version Sunday
I liked it

The tuner was nice
There was an acoustic sim on it
I forgot to check

But I thought it was pretty nice
