New Amp + New Pedalboard

Sorry for the crappy pictures, I'll bust out the DSLR after work tonight. I played the Egnater wide open for about an hour yesterday. It damn near made me crap myself it was so good. I spent most of my time with a Drop-B tuned guitar plugged into the modded 800 channel. This amp is an absolute monster. I'd talk about it more but I need to get to work. I actually work at a warehouse in an industrial complex, so I'm bringing the Egnater, my Bassman, my H9, and my stereo Mesa cab with me so I can crank it up for a while. Should be tons of fun.

I also got a new pedalboard yesterday. It's an NYC boards Big Shot Deluxe, their biggest non-custom offering. It's deluxe because you can choose between angled or not angled depending on your mood. I've been wanting to run my wah on the board for a while now, and since I got a volume pedal I just had to get a bigger board. It would have been a PITA to run both off board. I have to say, the build quality of the NYC stuff is fantastic. Again, I'll be back with more pictures later tonight.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

This model was just under 300, but I got all the upgrades I could. I think for a flat board this size with carpet instead of tolex, regular latches instead of butterfly ones and no riser you can get it for well under $200. That British green tolex was just too nice to pass on though. You can get a Pedaltrain 2 sized board for like 150 IIRC.

EDIT: Just checked and you can get a bare bones model the same size as mine for $189. You'll probably at least want a riser though, but with a board this big it's definitely not necessary unless you want to pack it to the brim like I did. They have a model that's about 23" wide for $149. I would likely have gone for that one if I didn't want to keep my wah and volume on the board. And if you're not into the carpet look, you have three price options: black tolex for $25, tweed for $35, and any of their more custom tolex types for $45. Risers are priced pretty reasonably at a dollar per inch wide. The risers are the perfect height to fit a Pedal Power under.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

I see why you love your seminar head so much - this amp is just seriously incredible. I won't get the time to do a full on review for a few days, but this will have to tide you guys over for now:

The volume is not nearly as bad as I was expecting. It will get loud as all get out, don't get me wrong, but it really starts to open up with the master around 10-11 o clock - not unbearably loud for a 45W, 2xEL34 powered Marshall clone. I played a plexi reissue recently that was so loud at 2.5 that I couldn't even get it working properly. I have no poroblem like that with this amp. It's actually pretty much on par with my Bassman in terms of volume output. I like that the master isn't super sensitive like the volume controls on my 68 Bassman or something like a Hot Rod Deluxe (not the III version) - it makes finding the right volume very easy.

The Plexi channel is fantastic. I love how nicely it cleans up with the guitar's volume. It seems to take pedals very nicely. I haven't run my whole board into it yet as I am rewiring the whole thing but I tried a few dirt pedals out front and my H9 in the loop.

Despite being effectively a single channel amp, both channels are quite versatile. The EQ section is quite powerful, but not to the point where it makes dialing the amp in difficult. I learned how the treble, middle, and bass controls interact in a few minutes and from there it was a piece of cake to dial in a nice grunty, barking mid-gain bark, a super saturated mid scooped 800 tone, or awesome Slash/AFD tones. I can also get super sick early VH out of this amp.

In the mean time if anyone has any questions on the amp feel free to ask away.

Oh and BTW, mixing a Fender and a Marshall in stereo is like a heavenly choir of non-theistic angels. I was running my Bassman and the Egnater into my Boogie with my H9 and it was sublime. The stereo effects are just incredible. Adding just a bit of subtle reverb though was just as magical as stereo delays, perhaps even moreso.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

Thank you bro, that means a lot.

I can't stop playing this amp. I brought it to work with the intention of playing it on my break. I've been here since 2 but I've only got 2 hours of work done.

I've never had this much fun just plugging straight into an amp. My bassman is awesome, but at the volumes I'm playing the Egnater, it's just not as good. I can get there with pedals but it's refreshing to be able to just plug straight into an amp and RAWK.

Also, I can't believe how many awesome recorded tones I'm nailing with this thing. It sounds equally awesome for Panama or The Boys are Back in Town on the Plexi channel. I busted out some awesome Mastodon riffage last night on the 800 channel. I got really close to the Oblivion tone, and I bet with the right guitar I'd be 95% of the way there (I don't think a Parker import with a JB in the bridge is perfect for that kind of music.)

I am in love. This amp is better than "meh" sex.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

congrats man. I'd love to plug into that rig for a while and just crank it.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

It is pretty awesome to plug straight in and rock.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

cool! as your standard procedure are you gonna use your effects loop to plug in the delays?

Once I get my interface I'll be doing that. For now I'll either be plugging the whole board straight in to the Plexi side or I'll just take the H9 and use that in the loop if I want to use the 800 side.
How do you like your Vibe Machine?
It's absolutely fantastic. I love it and I highly doubt I'll ever get rid of it. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

I just couldn't remember of that was one of the "true" photocell circuits or what not. I'd checked it out at one point and remember digging it.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

That's the reason I got it - it's the smallest available (that I know of) true photocell vibe pedal. The difference is definitely there.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

I am drooling over your board. Now you have to start board number two or three.

Re: New Amp + New Pedalboard

I would love to load up my PT Nano with a Rat, a fuzz, a phaser, and an Electronic Capistan. That would be the perfect mini jam board
