Hey all,

i want a new amp this summer and need help choosing. I have a Laney VC100 2x12 combo right now but i wast to get an half stack. So far ive only really thought about another laney like the tt100h or the Iommi gh100ti model. I play heavy stuff and Sabbtah covers

would other stuff work better? I dont have the chance to play any of these amp where i live.

thanks

Re: new amp time, need suggestions

The iommi is probably best if u play classic metal stuff the TT can do more modern but i think it has too many knobs. I dont own any of them so i cant really help u but from what i have read and heard (like iommis late tone) i would go with that. I think laney r good for their price.

How much is your budget? How much power (watts) do you need? Give us some more info...

Re: new amp time, need suggestions

want 100 watts and budget of up to 2000 or so, im not looking at boutique amps really

Re: new amp time, need suggestions

If you like your tone now, why not just get a 4-12 cab to go with your combo. Then you'll have the best of both worlds. I like the sound dispersal of an opened back combo, I miss it when only playing thru 4-12's. I'm using a Carvin XV-212 combo now and I'll be adding the matching 4-12 bottom cab as soon as I save up some more money.

Re: new amp time, need suggestions

ive thought about that, but the combo only takes an 8 ohm extension, most of the 4x12 cads ive wanted are 16ohm. the cheap mg series marshall cabs didnt sound too great, but maybe ill look around for other stuff

Re: new amp time, need suggestions

Wow, someone else actually has a VC series here. I would first ask if you have played it through a couple close back extension cabs, cause my splawn blew me away when i finally got it. It will make that amp KILL.

and also, are there things you like/dislike about it? (ex. highs, grainy, etc.)

Re: new amp time, need suggestions

I love that amp, so i wont be selling it anytime soon. I switched out the 5881tubes for el34-r2 and it sounds incredible, have also just ordered new 12ax7lps preamps. I find i can get all the tones i want, except really deep metal tone, so i usually use an mt2 pedal for Rammstein stuff.

Im playing a gibson SG standard too, and (once i have all the parts) the fender deluxe strat im building. I usually keep the signal clean.

and ya, ive only ever met one other guy with a vc 50, no one else with a 100, were a rare group.

I know in early sabbath Iommi used some orange amps.

Iommi only used Orange for one gig in Germany, and he only used them because that's what was sitting in the club when he walked it. They used footage from that gig for a video, hence the reason people think Iommi used Orange.

Back on topic, the GH100TI is great but it's only one channel, so you better make sure you'll be happy with a single channel high gain amp, and practice riding your guitar's volume knob.
