New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

I posted a week or two ago about possibly trading my Super Reverb RI for a '59 Bassman LTD. Well I just closed the deal! We did it as a straight up trade (no cash) since the two amps are relatively equal in used market value. I HAD been trying to sell my SRRI for almost 2 months now with no success. I think the lousiness of my local used market combined with the fact that the value of the authentic vintage Super Reverbs is sort of in the same range (seriously, go to ebay and search completed listings for "Super Reverb". There are some good deals on them out there).

I know, both amps are just as loud and have identical speakers and are just about the same power. I figure I've got nothing to lose in trying something different as the Bassman is going to be equally difficult to sell. There's just no beating a lacquered Tweed amp though! It's absolutely mint condition. I haven't been able to really open it up, but it's loud and sounds great with my pedals. Much less scooped than the SRRI. I don't really miss the reverb because I rarely used it, and as for the trem - I've got a good pedal that I like (and rarely use it too). The big plus is the Bassman is a bit smaller and noticeably lighter. I found the SRRI very cumbersome to move, Bassman less so.

All right, enough talk. Time for photos!

I guess I will NOT be able to use my attenuator...

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

AFAIK Keef hasn't been a bassman user, but that's not to say that one couldn't get some *****in stones tones out of a bassman.

I bet it sounds terrific with a carbon copy in front. Congrats on the amp swap sir!

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

I'm also glad I got one of the older reissues. I was in the store a few days ago and checked out the Bassman they had on the floor. Now they've got rubber booties over the switches and ugly black cages around the tubes. I think they were forced to do that for "safety" reasons.

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

Congratulations, hope it works out better than the super. That's a great photo with the Tele, move everything else out of the way and it must be like going back in time! Enjoy.

Beautiful amp; it sounds like it's just what you're looking for so I'm glad to hear you made the right trade. What's the far field speaker to the left in the last pic?

I've mentioned that a few times about Super Reverbs. I'm short and they're tall and when I pick one up by the handle it doesn't clear enough of the ground for me to walk across a parking lot with it, unless I lean to one side. Bad for the back and very cumbersome and a big negative for me. The Bassman is not as tall and much easier for me to carry with one hand.

Nice! I'd love to get a chance to rock one of those someday. Enjoy it, dude. :beerchug:

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

Amp report: I got a chance to use it briefly today (I have a 4 month old at home so yeah, don't get to play my amps super often these days). One word: L O U D. I think the Bassman has even more clean headroom than my SRRI did. It's a very nice clean though. It takes to pedals ridiculously well. My Barber 1/2 Gainer OD sounds excellent through it. I can see how the Bassman is a great platform on which to build a rig around.

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

They do tend to be rather loud!

I'd think if yer going for that Stones type sound a Bassman + Telecaster and something like the Lovepedal Les Lius would go a LONG way!

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

NICE!

No worries...based on your most recent post I see you might be getting a harness very soon!

Already ordered! :headbang:

No worries about the Stones sound - I've got that covered. Basically all you need to do is take any Fender vintage style tube amp and turn it way up. Hence why I already own an attenuator.
