New amp!

Just scored a Sommatone Slick 18! I had been GASing for an 18 watt Marshall type amp. It was a toss up between the Sommatone and a Suhr Badger. While I really like the Badger, the Sommatone is a little more versatile and nicer sounding at hi volumes. Both amps do the whole plexi/JTM 45 thing perfectly, however, the Sommatone can also do Vox AC30 tones as well. Anyone looking for a low wattage "Brit style" handwired amp should check it out.

Re: New amp!

I had never heard of them wither, but now I have. It sounds like a cool amp, perfect for old school rock.

Here is the info on their website:

"Designed exclusively for Earl Slick, David Bowie's guitarist, the Sommatone Slick-18 is a straight up “Class A” rock “n” roll machine. No overdrive pedal required with this amp! The Slick-18 is extremely responsive and touch sensitive - go from clean to dirty by adjusting your guitar's volume and pick attack. And don't let the name confuse you; the Slick-18 actually has a 19-watt output power rating…this is not an 18-watt knock off!

Construction, Components & Features

The Slick-18 amplifiers are handmade and constructed using a tag board with point-to-point wiring. All components are the highest quality and tested for consistency and reliability.

Re: New amp!

Sommatone's are incredible. My good friend Tommy works for them, and gets to test out the protos and whatnot.

I forget what model, but I was at Tommy's recording studio, and tried out some MONSTER of an 18 watt marshall-esque amp. Loved it. Great volume control on that amp.
