New Amp

Picked one of these up on Friday So I'd have something to play through at the GFs house. It's a Yamaha THR10 desktop modeling amp. Pretty cool little 10 watt amp.

I just wanted something to make a little sound with but it actually has a few cool features. I downloaded the editing software and model presets and there are quite a few usable tones in there. Deep editing for the effects, compression and gate are also in there.

Aux and usb inputs with a separate aux level control make it really easy to play along with outside material at low levels with exceptional tone, either from my phone, a CD or my PC.

Cubase was also included so I can now record directly from the amp to my PC. It was a little trying downloading all the drivers, editing software, presets, loading Cubase and then registering everything but now that its done it's a sweet little rig to notebook ideas on the fly with exceptional tone.

Very nice little practice amp.

New guitar and new amp? That's gilding the lily, sir! :laugh2:

I didn't even know Yamaha had stuff like that. Looks like a nice choice.

I was told it was picked somewhere as amp or modeling amp of the year. It's not super loud but it has great tone and very nice effects so it would make the perfect apartment practice amp.

I bought the floor model for $239.00 so the price was right too. A very nice amp for under $300.00.

Re: New Amp

Robert,

After spending some serious play time with the amp, plz post a complete review.

I've been looking for something to replace my Roland Cube Street... I've been debating wether or not to replace it with one of these Yamaha's.

Really dissappointed with Roland's aux input on the Cube Street. Its hard to play along to music... the input volume is limited, while the amp's volume is not. And I do beleive the aux input is mono. Either that or it just sucks.

A real world user review would be helpful.

Thanks!

BTW - Congrats on the amp. I've had my eye on these!

Re: New Amp

Lex, so far I love it and I can be quite fussy. The aux input on this amp is stereo and they supply both the stereo aux wire and the std usb to mini usb for computer connections. The editing software is available in both 32 and 64 bit. I'll jam to it later and let you know on the balance between guitar and aux levels but on the THR10, the guitar and aux have separate level controls so I suspect there are no issues.

I did run the phone through the aux and the tone was great with good levels.

Re: New Amp

Congratulations! From the little I've heard (clips/youtube) they sound great!

..& they look pretty cool too.

Re: New Amp

I bought one of these a few months ago (maybe three) and it ios very portable! Sounds terrific. I play it on Fridays with up to 8 horns (Trombone, Coronet, 2 clarinets, Sax, another bone, drummer, piano -- grand piano.. and me.. and the amp does a fine job in a room about 40+' x 40+ feet opened onto a patrio (open) curtains and blinds in the rear and a kitchen off to the left .. nice environment. Notbody is playing intense volume .. but horns have some muscle and this amp goes rigfht along with them. I usuall set it on "lead" or "british), Chorus, open gain, amp on the neck pickup (Seth Lovers). (I had "Top Gear" change the resistor/capacitors for my Seth Lovers .. from the pickup to the output jack including the volume and tone .. and they did MAGIC absolute magic. Oh man!). I was playing the guitar for a lady at Starbucks and I asked how does this sound .. she said "butter melting .." (nice) .. it is nice .. very sweet. Now THERE .. I play soft melody like Shadow of Your Smile, Midnight Sun, Barquino (l=Little Boat), Corcovado, Summer Samba .. EZ listening .. .... the Fridays group play jazz standards .. Bye Bye Blackbird, Back Home in Indiana, Do You Know What it Means, Bewitched, Lady is a Tramp. It's fun to play and the audience is smiling. They like it. Occasional vocals if somebody wants to sing one .. Autumn Leaves, Fly Me To the Moon. [edited .. typos]

Quiet desperation: yes. SOng .. well I am singing it (but nobody actually hears it .... is that like sound? if nobody hears it .. is it still a song??)

Re: New Amp

Cool score Robert; I always wanted to try one of those things considering all the positive press that's been released about them. Sounds like Yamaha really found a way to bring good modeling at a modest price point.
