New Amp!!!

A few weeks ago, I bought an amp out of a 1938 Hammond Tone-wheel organ on E-bay. I finally got it (it's been at my brother's house since wednesday, but i couldn't see it til today) It also came with what I assume to be an original speaker. 2 6V6's, a 6BA6 (preamp tube) and a 5U4.
When I first plugged into it, it was pretty quiet, but sounded good - very clean and very warm. Being that there is no volume control (that I can see), I found that the volume is simply controlled by how much signal you throw at it. (There is a lever that I initially thought was volume, but it doesn't do anything. There are also a bunch of terminals that I'm not sure about - I'll post more info later and see if anyone can help me with it)
After figuring out the trick to the volume, I went and got my GT6 and bypassed everything, just turning up the signal volume. Then the amp started to sing. :32: After a bit more tooling around, I found the best "that-amp-sound" is just using the "booster" OD function on the GT6 and adding a touch of reverb. Bluesy heaven!!
I also discovered that running the GT6 through it like I run it through my other amp (with amp modelling, effects and all) sounds really good too! The tube/speaker combination sounds really good with a strong midrange, as opposed to my Fender's really bright tone. In short, I'm stoked, and I haven't even tried it with a keyboard yet, which was the original plan, though I'm not sure I'm willing to give it up now! :burnout:

Re: New Amp!!!

Old stuff like this is cool . . . especially old tube stuff that you can use with a guitar. You get a touch of "mojo" just from the feeling of flushing out some ancient ghosts from the wires. ;)

Re: New Amp!!!

I completely agree. I just had it cranked up pretty loudly (enough to piss off the cat pretty badly anyway) and it really sounds pretty good! Now I just need more of these!
