what do you guys think of the new Boss GT-100... i have been eyeing the GT-10 for a long time but now they've released the 100.... i'm not a huge Multi FX user but would like to have one to replace my old POD 2.0 from over 10 years ago... and in general i've always liked the Boss Modelers sounds over most brands

Re: new Boss GT-100

I have the GT-10 and it's a good pedalboard. There's a forum for that too at http://www.bossgtcentral.com/ I'm still pondering the GT-100. I don't have the money but am trying to sell some gear on cragslist so I maybe have the option to. The GT-100 will be a step up from the 10, no doubt. The dual screens and supposedly no menus will be a nice change. The GT-10 also has an issue with cocked wah. If that's a problem for you, you may want to wait until it's released and see what people are saying about that. I heard it on the first patch I used but liked it. Others hate it. The pedal assigns (on the 10) are good, the FX run from so-so to great, you can add an FS-6 for more CNTL usage and it has a pretty steep learning curve. I doubt it that's going to change in the GT-100. The top 4 or 5 guys over at bossgtcentral are really on top of the boss MFX units though and they are an amazing resource for when you can't figure something out. One guy created a virtual floorboard for the GT-10 that you can run on Windows to do editing duty, it's free, and he's already working on the GT-100 version, just waiting for the real thing to become available so he can fill in the blanks. If you're a metalhead it may not have enough for you but we'll see when it comes out. BOSS has apparently made the cab sims interactive so you will basically be able to roll your own, the same way we've been rolling our own tone. It'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I think the price is excellent for it, whatever shortcomings it may turn out to have. IT'll be a step up from the GT-10, absolutely. -Rod-

I noticed that alot of the COSM tones are also in my Boss BR80 recorder...These COSM tones sound really great and they keep improving on the tonality....There isn't much on YouTube yet for this one,but it does look very easy to get around on...I'm not interested in buying this unit, but I like to stay abreast of what's new in musicland.. ;o) This is why I know more than the guys that work at the guitar/music stores! ;o)

The fairly narrow view of the GT-100 on youtube videos has absolutely been noticed in the other forum and some people are asking if BOSS is avoiding showing some shortcomings in the GT-100. The processor is supposed to be 6x what the current processor is and that can't be a bad thing. It means that the COSM tones should sound even better and we'll hopefully be able to run more at once. That may be taken up by the cab sims. I'd say that most people are hoping that the GT-100 won't honk like the GT-10...at least when you don't want it to.

The pedal setup on the GT-100 bothers me in some respects, gets kudos in others. Just one CNTL pedal...with the other next to it being a phrase looper bothers me. I'll assume that the looper pedal will be assignable though so it may work out ok. On the plus side, the bank up and down pedals will be top left, instead of top right. Most of us go off balance reaching for pedals with our right foot so being able reach over an tap with my left will be a good thing. The unit has a very clean look to it, all that empty, black space looks slick, but also leaves me wondering what could have been had they thrown in a few more buttons or knobs. Oddly, though there's definitely stuff on the GT-10 that I don't use much...if at all...I like that it's there as an option. Boss may have sacrificed a few options...like MORE looping capacity...for a clean look but that's just a guess. They also sell loopers so it's understandable why they'd not add more options there and maybe a third screen for it in the GT-100, etc. -Rod-

Re: new Boss GT-100

in many ways a gt-10 and the gt-100 would be overkill for a guy like me... but i like the idea having all the options they offer... in truth i could get by with the less ME models...

Re: new Boss GT-100

John, you have to let this stuff go. It's gonna eat you up inside man....

Naaah not at all Bobby....I find it kinda funny, but it is the truth! There are alot of people that wish they had half the musical knowledge I've built up over alot of years! Lol....It's not eating up anything...

I have the Vox ToneLab LE and it's an awesome piece, but these days I'm back to a handful of good pedals...Easier to use and no scrolling or menus..

I get your point too but even with the GT-10, I'm not going through menus or scrolling much...but that's cuz I already did that part. Pretty much everything I need is sitting in one patch and I've got the 2 CNTL pedals plus an FS-6 for 2 more. There's three more patches next to the first should I want them this week or next month, but really, it's all pretty much set up the way I want it. My grand total is 4 patches + 4 CNTL pedals with my assigns and most of those assigns simply give me the same functions as the patches only minus the GT-10's preamps. Cost wise this is much more flexible than 1/2 dozen good stomps and should I want to do things differently in the future, there's a few dozen emulations and stomps sitting right there, already paid for.

If the money is available for a GT-100 in a week or a month, I'll probably go for it. That's pretty much been my pattern for the last few decades but if the reviews don't measure up to the hopes of the unwashed masses for this rig, I won't shed any tears over being stuck with my GT-10. I'd guess that some famous name rockers are already using one, picking it apart to see what if anything would be useful to them. -Rod-

Re: new Boss GT-100

i was quite impressed by a Boss Clinic at my local guitar store last year with the tones in a bunch of their modelers.... i hope they do another BOSS day this year after the GT100 hits the shelf... The players Boss had there that day where freakin amazing players... that helped make the units sound great too.. but the basic tones were good...
