New boss mt2 waza pedal question

I just got my first two pedals ( boss sd1 and metal zone waza edition. And I was wondering if anyone else has found the mt-2w(standard mode) really noisy? I've never heard the original version but the waza version is supposed to have decreased noise in the circuit. The pedal is new, just wondering if it is supposed to be noisy. I don't have an effects loop on the amp it's a boss katana 50 mkii. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I predict Demanic is going to tell you that it's not possible for an MT2 to be too noisy.

But yeah, MT2 is better in FX loop for most people.

No idea on the overall Noise difference but I will tell you that a Metal Zone has always had a high end sizzle sound that is core to it's "thing"

Thanks for the input man. I don't mean like noise while I'm playing I mean when I'm not playing there's ALOT of feedback noise, alot more than there is from the sd-1. I'm new to pedals here, is alot of background noise when not playing usual for pedals or is it because of not having an effects loop?

more gain usually means more noise. the sd1 isnt a very high gain pedal and the metal zone is definitely high gain so id expect more hiss when not playing. if there is actual feedback when not playing, thats not uncommon. turn your volume down on the guitar or mute the strings

Yes, it is a high gain pedal and therefore will have noise, the more you turn the gain up the noisier it gets.

How high are you running the gain on the pedal and the amp? What kind of amp? Are you using a power supply? Since these are you first pedals, I assume you are early in your playing experience (sorry if I am incorrect). As stated, especially with high gain, rolling you guitar volume off when not playing becomes an automatic thing, that will prevent the feedback issues and reduce the noise.

The amp is a boss katana 50 mkii, I'm using the psa power adapter, the gain on the amp is at 8 and the gain on the pedal has been around the midpoint so far. I've been playing for 15+ years I just never got into the technical side of the electronics until now. Never really had the money to until now either. Just trying to expand my tonal pallette. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Yep, use it into a clean amp. I hear they can be used as a boost, but probably better into a tube amp and you would want to turn the gain all the way down.

Alright thanks alot for the feedback. I turned the gain off on the amp and it's very quiet now and sounds better in the gain. I didn't know if your supposed to run the pedal with or without amp gain, it's my first one and Im just going by ear here. I don't have any of the effects on the katana set yet, I'm going to learn that after I get the distortion set. Thanks again for the input everyone.

Typically, the higher the gain in the pedal, the cleaner the amp should be. In some cases you can roughly middle the settings on both amp and pedal but those tones are most generally not your way high gain type tones. Additionally, when most pedals are used on high gain amp settings they are used to "boost" the amp which is usually to tighten up the low end (bass) response of the amp. In those cases the gain is off or extremely low and the volume is full tilt and any other knobs are to taste.

Hope that helps you out.

But I want to crank my amp and my pedal to the max for ALL THE GAINZ

Unless your Guitar Pedals are oversized and have faders can you really have the TOANZ at all?
