New Brent Hinds V. Very cool!

Re: New Brent Hinds V. Very cool!

That looks badass. I'd rock the **** out of it. Huge fan of Mastodon.

Though, kind of interesting that they did two signature Gibsons with Bill and only a signature Epiphone with Brent. Maybe it had something to do with sales?

On a slightly side note, here's a picture of Joe Walsh playing the Golden Axe. If he can rock it, anybody can.

Great looking guitar. I like Mastodon a lot. But it's weird IMO the people that get sigs from Gibson, because they reportedly gave Hetfield (a guy who would've shifted a TON more guitars for them) the runaround.

Re: New Brent Hinds V. Very cool!

The way I heard it was that, at least back in the day, Hetfield asked for build changes that Gibson put the veto on. Things like a bigger headstock, different knob/switch placement, etc. It was then that ESP came to him and said they'd build him whatever he wanted.

And then they all but build his guitar with this (besides the 85 neck pup; he'd have wanted a 60)

Not a V fan but I agree with it looking classy and not Sinnister-gaudy.

Don't hate the behind-the-headstock graphic either as it'd rarely be seen

Yeah, I have to keep talking myself out of this 1984 explorer.. Ive always wanted an explorer without the pg and all. just dont want the emgs..

Re: New Brent Hinds V. Very cool!

Wow, I kinda want one now..

I would probably look into replacing the V tailpiece with something less gaudy though.

Mastodon as a band seems to keep good values on gear. They seem to always use what sounds good, and don't just go for crazy stuff.

Move the front strap button too. Every Explorer I've played with the front strap button there had neck dive; my Explorer (with the button on the back) balances perfectly and I'd wager that yours does too.

That would be correct! Mine behaves pretty well. If I were to use a slippery type of strap, it would still move some. But using a wide leather strap (with the suede type texture underneath) keeps it planted nicely..

Re: New Brent Hinds V. Very cool!

I thought it might be a little cheaper.

To be fair, that's on-par with the Schecter V-1 Custom (LINK) I recently picked up, which has essentially the same spec sheet. Instead of a flamed top, you get a "signature" model, but both have ebony fretboards, locking hardware and USA-built pickups.

Also, the LACE "Hammer Claws" pickup set is REALLY interesting. They're also a $200 retail value! I got one of the very first sets and really liked them. If I hadn't thinned my guitar herd quite a bit, I'd still have a guitar with those pickups in it for sure!

Re: New Brent Hinds V. Very cool!

This guitar interests me a great deal. I'm not
Big on v's either. They can be ackward to play while seated. But the spec
Sheet is awesome

And they don't really go for super out there finishes either. They like a lot of bursts and classic guitar styles. Bill Kelliher plays his Explorers and Les Pauls a lot. Brent sticks to his V's, a couple LP's and an SG from what I've seen. Their music may be weird, but there tastes aren't.
