Its time for another build...i found some mahogany at my local lumber place for real cheap, then my friend had some black walnut slabs sitting in hit garage for the past 16 years that he gave me.

So im gonna go 5 piece neck through being i cut 2 out of the last blank i made, mahogany body with 1/2 inch walnut top with an ebony fretboard..... most likely getting a floyd and a single humbucker at the bridge...

Got everything thickness planed down and the top glued

Here is the body template im working on

And a little shot of the neck to be used

I wish I had the skill to do such a thing. Then again, it would probably be financially bad for me, as I'd become obsessed with building with every different wood on earth! :guilty:

The financial pain IMO is acquiring the necessary tools. Planing table, joiner, table saw, scroll saw, router or routing table, belt/disc sander, etc. You can use handheld tools, but unless you have a lot of patience, it's just never going to be as perfect as what you can do with a professional wood shop. Once you have the tools, wood's pretty cheap.

You can do what chaoz and i do and that's get a joiner/cabinet maker to do the wood prep. I have got a few bigger machines now but before that i was part of a wood working club and they had everything under the sun.

Nice build btw. Nummy

Re: New build started!!!!

You can use sandpaper and straightedges to joint edges should you need to. I survived with a router, drillpress and orbital sander being my main tools for quite a few builds.

This top was jointed with sandpaper on a level to make it square and smooth

Re: New build started!!!!

Why the Orig. 1st. type of Titebond not II or III ?

Ive been told titebond ll and lll are for more outdoor applications because of it being wster resistant. Plus ive been told by many people titebond original has been used in guitars for many years
