New cabinet day

Picked up a Line 6 4x12 cab today.

First thoughts : probably mdf, crappy Line 6 speakers... likely changing the speakers out

After opening the cab : surprised to find PLYWOOD!!! Still convinced the Line 6 speakers are crappy

After connecting my Egnater Rebel 30 : sounds amaze balls... friend pointed out the speakers are probably voiced for flat response since the cab was intended for a modelling amp and I'm hearing what my amp actually sounds like x4.

Jury is still out on the speakers, but still might like to put celestions or some similar speakers.

Re: New cabinet day

I'm not sure.

It's a compact enclosure, black grill cloth, slanted top, no piping along the grill. I assume it's the cab intended for the Spider series amps. I only paid $180 Canadian.

Why would they do that? Are their heads stereo?

I doubt they're getting "flat" response out of a box with four giant paper midranges. It would be a lot easier for them to build a cabinet, model it digitally, then use that model to develop algorithms to make it sound like the target cab/combo. They're probably counting on feeding into something "flat" only for things like a mixer/line/headphone out.

Re: New cabinet day

If it's the Spider cab, those "flat response" speakers are rebadged Celestion Seventy 80's.
