New Case

Hearing mixed reviews about the current crop of Fender and GG cases - I need a case, but a little queasy on Purchasing one of these. Anyone had to buy a case for a Fender in the last couple of years? Thanks.

Re: New Case

i bought an SKB standard flightcase for strats a year or so ago. no complaints. I even took it on a couple of international flights. It's got a tiny tiny dent in one corner, but the guitar was safe and sound.

Re: New Case

By default, I have the Fender/G&G cases with some of my instruments. +ve) They look and smell right. -ve) They do not offer the degree of physical, humidity and temperature protection afforded by form fit, impact-resistant, plastic 'n' aluminium designs.

The Hiscox website includes a lengthy - sometimes boring - lecture on the advantages of modern guitar cases over the traditional Fifties hand luggage types.

Re: New Case

It would help to know your requirements for the case. Are you touring/traveling? Or just going from home to studio?

If it helps, I've got a G&G lacquered tweed for my '62 reissue Strat that is beautiful with a gold interior, and I have an odd G&G dark green tweed for my Tele that has a chrome '70's Fender amp logo. The latter came slightly warped. I have to say, it's not clear if the warped problem is from the manufacturer, or from being abused/thrown around/stored improperly in a distributors warehouse where the case sat unwanted for several years before I bought it on sale. It closes fine, locks, and looks really cool, and does the job of protecting my Tele just fine, so it's very a minor nit-pick for me.

I would not tour with G&G. If you need to tour/travel, get some TSA-approved SKB or whatever-Anvil that locks and is form-fit to your guitar.

Re: New Case

I got one and like it. One of the latches broke off but I'll admit it was my own fault, not the case. They're nice cases thats for sure, but there are other cases out there like skb that'll just blow it away in terms of durability and regulating the internal environment of the case. Though it should be fair to say, the more I protect my guitar, the harder it is on everything else. My walls and floors aren't fans of the harder cases. Just gotta be more careful.

Re: New Case

Not a touring guy at all. Just need to protect a vintage guitar I got without the case.

I got loads of cases, but they have guitars in them. I've been reading the cases you get from like MF aren't the same as the ones you get from Fender and Suhr when you buy a guitar.

I'm giving the Fender branded SKB a try. Should have it Mon and get the guitar that will go in it back sometime next week.

The nice thing about the G&G is I can get a lot in a small space - I can do 14 in a space 3' X 18" X 6'5"

Thanks for the replies.

Re: New Case

The Fender branded SKB (the rectangular one) is excellent. I have one that came with my AS Tele and I use it instead of my G&G tweed that came with my 52. Light and durable.

Looks good, but messes up my stacking.. :D
Its shorter than the G&G and thicker. Looks like a quality piece.
