New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

The whole Jake thing started again when he appeared in a video for another band, can't remember who. Then everybody started asking and Eddie Trunk went to work. Jake had been working on stuff with his now bass player and another guy before Eddie got him on the show.

Got confirmation from Warmoth. They don't so any custom work outside the options already available on the site. Terrapin Guitars is the best bet for reverse slant neck and middle singles.

Reminds me a certain guitar I own. I wonder if Jake's Charvel was an influence back in the day...

A 1975 Charvel neck was quartersawn and compound fretboard radius?

Gawd do I hate that signature BS.

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

I was all set to order one until I got a sneak peek at it. Unfortunately Charvel (Fender) used the wrong color, and bridge. I was really wanting a more accurate model compared to Jake's actual "whitey".

MAP is $2350 for the Jake E Lee model

Don't you still have a Jake E Lee white replica project in the works?

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

IMO- aside from cosmetics, it's nothing special. Most of Jakes work seems to be using the JB bridge so the singles wouldn't even come into play, though I'd still like to have them.

I remember back in the day that guitar, compared to all the glam metal neon airbrushed shredsticks out there, looked like a piece of junk much like EVH's Frankenstrat- but just like as EVH, it's all in the fingers.

I'm more interested in finding out how he still gets that evil chainsaw like tone out of an EVH 5150 III amp- at some point he uses a flanger or phaser on his solos, but he's always had this evil tone which he still has to this day

Yeah, more of a "inspired by" vs a real knock off (of a knock off).

I have it sitting in the pile along with the Les Paul, and several Teles. :D

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

That's exactly the one I had- I got the guitar for $75 at a pawn shop. It had an aftermarket Dimarzio Megadrive in the bridge, and a stock Jackson single in the slanted neck position- and it sounded awesome.

I even emailed MJ to see if I could get those singles custom wound as I still have the stacked Jacksons I took out of my Soloist, but I never got a response.

Supposedly the whole Jake E Lee revival is because of the DJ Eddie Trunk, He's a huge metal fan and tracked Jake down. Jake was of the belief he wasn't cool or wanted anymore since hair metal if so frowned upon these days, so he dropped out of the spotlight. Trunk had to convince him to come out of hiding , and Jake had to see for himself that people wanted to hear him again. Trunk also managed a few years ago to get Vito Bratta out of hiding for an appearance and interview, though Bratta has no interest in returning.

I heard the interview with Jake doubting himself, it was depressing. :( Looking forward to hearing his new project and I hope he keeps creating.

For the few years in the mid '80s and early '90s that he was high profile, he influenced me tremendously. He contributed to some of the very best Ozzy and the first Badlands album especially kicked. :beerchug: Some of my favorite covers to play are his Ozzy era songs like Spiders in the Night and early Badlands.

I can only imagine what it must be like to have fame, then lose it completely. I couldn't blame guys like that if they just wanted to stay in the background and lead a normal life, especially if financially secure and with a wife and kids, etc. But thankfully, great musicians usually find their way back to the stage!

His original Whitey was a mid seventies tobacco sunburst Strat. He worked at a music store at the time and picked it out of a dozen different ones. He originally wanted one with a vibrato, but that one sounded the best so he got it. When he moved up to L.A. he didn't think it looked cool enough, so his room mate who worked at Charvel painted it white, cut the peghead down, and added the Charvel sticker.
That Ibanez you have there Ashurbanipal, is.......HOT!

Picked it up Wed, and despite some critics I for one love it. Jake's unique groovy-ness is all over it and man it's good to hear him rockin' again!

The slanted single coils are awesome- I once had an 80's Japanese made Charvel that had a slanted neck single coil and it had the most awesome tone, like the intro to Skid Row's Monkey Buisness.

I'd love to track down a pickguard with the slanted neck and middle to put on my Charvel So Cal.

Have you tried a custom shop? I got a custom wenge pickguard for a Strat...I'm sure they could cut the holes the way you wanted it.

I'm looking into a few custom shops, one just opened up after vacation

I'm glad Charvel has issued a signature Jake model, & that he's back on the public stage: greatest performer I ever saw.

I still swear that he didn't use JB's on BATM, lp & tour: it's too PAF/'59 to my ears

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

I've always liked Jake's playing and I have the new Red Dragon Cartel album and it rocks. I always thought he got short changed in comparisons with Zakk Wylde, Wylde is good, but man does he love the pinch harmonic. While I can't afford the new Charvel Jake Model, I wish they would build an import versions of it. I have never played an Ash body guitar and am curious as to how it would sound playing metal. I have read good things about ash, but it is commonly associated with the twangier sounds.

Does he still use a DS-1? I've seen several pedal board shots back in the Ozzy / Badlands days and the little orange box was always there.
