Just curious, does this combo work? If it doesnt, could the neck or body be modified to fit? I am currently looking at a 1980s Model 1C body in great condition.

Indeed Sir, but shimming may be needed. Like 1/32" per side, just to tighten it up, but its minor stuff..(2-3/16" neck/2-1/4" neck pocket).
Edit:
I had to do that before and I simply added a strip of masking tape (maybe 2, I can't remember) around the neck heel and put it on, marked where it fit on the body and trimmed the excess. It was invisible and reversible.
