I got my Christmas earlier this fall with a great deal on a Custom Shop Martin D-28 (AMAZING GUITAR!!!!) from Guitar Center, then turned around a couple of days later and found a FABULOUS deal on a Mesa Mark V:25--the full stack.
The D-28MC is without a doubt the loudest, richest-toned and resonant dread of any brand that I have ever played. It vibrates in my hands like a hollow-body in front of a Marshall stack. I can only imagine what this guitar will be like in twenty years or so.
I already have several amps, but the Mark V:25 might be the best of the bunch. Used it at an all-ages benefit concert on Thanksgiving day and got tons of compliments. It sounded SO good--I just had a big smile on my face all day--and that high lasted about a week. Can't wait to use it again.
So I swore I was done buying gear for the next TWO years!!! These were great deals, but it's still a big outlay of cash.
That lasted until earlier this week, when I saw an ad on the CL for a well-used Martin D-41 at an unbelievable price. The guitar has some wear on it but cleaned up nicely, and after a new set of strings and a couple of minor tweaks, it's a keeper. It was less than what many people pay for a used HD-28, and I just couldn't resist. Miss Leslie--my boss, confidante, roadie, paramour and best friend was a little skeptical at first, but once she saw and heard it after it was polished up--it has definitely won her approval. (Yea! Don't have to sleep on the porch!!! Yea!) I love the bling, and the woods and tone and playability are top-notch.
All three of these pieces were fabulous deals, and I feel VERY, VERY fortunate and blessed.
So I think Santa's done for the year--probably won't even get socks, underwear or hankies under the tree this year.

The "Little Brown Santa" will be stopping at my house Tuesday sometime.![]()
Mr. Hanky?
I got an HD-28V a while back and man that's an acoustic that will make all your other acoustics hide in their cases.

I actually have an HD-28V, and you are so right! I just have some great Martins, and it would be very difficult to pick one as the BEST. I could list them all, but it's an embarrassment of riches. Every time I open a case it's a drool fest.

Yes, it's no vintage SVT or Bassman, but it sounds really good and is ridiculously light.I've got one of the original series Rumble 75's. I think that's a highly underrated amp for anybody.
Merry Christmas to the only thing that really gets me.... New strings and cable for my beloved.

I went to Guitar Center's website, made a wish list of a bunch of relatively inexpensive things for my wife and the girls to get, and then printed it off. Mrs. BriGuy and I went shopping tonight and I sat and played guitars while she worked the list, so I'm gonna have some useful stuff for a change!
I've had a hankering lately for a P-90 guitar of some sort... wanna see how I like them, but GC didn't have squat in stock. Didn't like the Wildkat, but played a cheap-a$$ Epiphone Les Paul Special and was pleasantly surprised at how good it felt (for a $99 guitar). I was kinda having fun with it when she came and found me, so she disappeared again and bought it! I know it's nothing fantastic, but it'll be fun! Bummer is that I have to wait until Christmas and then act surprised for my girls' sake!
