NEW CHRISTMAS GEAR THREAD!!!

Re: NEW CHRISTMAS GEAR THREAD!!!

I got my Christmas earlier this fall with a great deal on a Custom Shop Martin D-28 (AMAZING GUITAR!!!!) from Guitar Center, then turned around a couple of days later and found a FABULOUS deal on a Mesa Mark V:25--the full stack.

The D-28MC is without a doubt the loudest, richest-toned and resonant dread of any brand that I have ever played. It vibrates in my hands like a hollow-body in front of a Marshall stack. I can only imagine what this guitar will be like in twenty years or so.

I already have several amps, but the Mark V:25 might be the best of the bunch. Used it at an all-ages benefit concert on Thanksgiving day and got tons of compliments. It sounded SO good--I just had a big smile on my face all day--and that high lasted about a week. Can't wait to use it again.

So I swore I was done buying gear for the next TWO years!!! These were great deals, but it's still a big outlay of cash.

That lasted until earlier this week, when I saw an ad on the CL for a well-used Martin D-41 at an unbelievable price. The guitar has some wear on it but cleaned up nicely, and after a new set of strings and a couple of minor tweaks, it's a keeper. It was less than what many people pay for a used HD-28, and I just couldn't resist. Miss Leslie--my boss, confidante, roadie, paramour and best friend was a little skeptical at first, but once she saw and heard it after it was polished up--it has definitely won her approval. (Yea! Don't have to sleep on the porch!!! Yea!) I love the bling, and the woods and tone and playability are top-notch.

All three of these pieces were fabulous deals, and I feel VERY, VERY fortunate and blessed.

So I think Santa's done for the year--probably won't even get socks, underwear or hankies under the tree this year. :)

I got an HD-28V a while back and man that's an acoustic that will make all your other acoustics hide in their cases.

The "Little Brown Santa" will be stopping at my house Tuesday sometime. :)

Re: NEW CHRISTMAS GEAR THREAD!!!

Somehow, I've managed to post this in 2 or 3 other threads, but what the heck. Since you asked:

Re: NEW CHRISTMAS GEAR THREAD!!!

So just placed an order for my guitar upgrade but a little different than i wrote before in this thread, i went for the black schaller locking tuners, graph tech sadle, graph tech string trees 12 pack of dadario 10's and 2 black volume and tone knobs.
Now all that is left for this time is a black schaller vintage tremolo and she will have the estetics that i want

I actually have an HD-28V, and you are so right! I just have some great Martins, and it would be very difficult to pick one as the BEST. I could list them all, but it's an embarrassment of riches. Every time I open a case it's a drool fest.

Re: NEW CHRISTMAS GEAR THREAD!!!

A couple of months ago I bought myself an Alesis DM10 Studio Mesh Electronic Drum Kit for Christmas. Unfortunately, my back has been out of whack and I haven't been able to set it up and play it.

I too decided to get an HD-28V when I bought my first nice acoustic. You know how some ask "can you even hear a difference?" This guitar is a resounding "yes". Family and friends, musicians and non-musicians alike have all said how great it sounds, including my wife.

Congrats on your new Martins!

I've got one of the original series Rumble 75's. I think that's a highly underrated amp for anybody.
Yes, it's no vintage SVT or Bassman, but it sounds really good and is ridiculously light.

Re: NEW CHRISTMAS GEAR THREAD!!!

After reaching the end of the free trial period, I elected to purchase the Waldorf Nave software synthesizer plug-in. For good measure, I topped up my virtual shopping basket by upgrading my old favourite Waldorf D-Pole filter plug-in to version 2.

HAHA Awesome picture!! Gazing lovingly at the guitar... Here you go honey.... Thing is, as a player, I TOTALLY get it.. My wife came in my bedroom the other morning and found me sleeping with my explorer on the pillow beside me.. She says "Youve GOT to be kidding.... " hahaha fell asleep playing...

Re: NEW CHRISTMAS GEAR THREAD!!!

I went to Guitar Center's website, made a wish list of a bunch of relatively inexpensive things for my wife and the girls to get, and then printed it off. Mrs. BriGuy and I went shopping tonight and I sat and played guitars while she worked the list, so I'm gonna have some useful stuff for a change!

I've had a hankering lately for a P-90 guitar of some sort... wanna see how I like them, but GC didn't have squat in stock. Didn't like the Wildkat, but played a cheap-a$$ Epiphone Les Paul Special and was pleasantly surprised at how good it felt (for a $99 guitar). I was kinda having fun with it when she came and found me, so she disappeared again and bought it! I know it's nothing fantastic, but it'll be fun! Bummer is that I have to wait until Christmas and then act surprised for my girls' sake!

GREAT IDEA!! I always buy the spouse stuff she wants. I usually get a shirt or socks...
