Like I said, tries. :p

Black Flag Over My Head

Guitar is my Squier '51, bridge humbucker in split mode & neck single coil. Amp model is the 6505/4x12 V30 cab (no surprises there). Bass is my Ibby SR500, Big Bottom & 4x15 cab models. Tuning is CGCGCE, CGCG.

micwalt, a friend from the Harmony Central Guitar Jam forum, said when I posted an 8-bar test clip there that he wanted to do vocals & lead on it. I'm looking forward to that tremendously, as he excels at both. Will post that when its available.

In the meantime, enjoy!

Thanks gents! :D

Timur, I absolutely love open C major. Praise Devin, I shall never play in standard again!

Re: NEW CLIP! CGord tries to ape King's X!

I was thinking about it with my 7 ,I tried it ,and it sounded great ,but it's impossible to play my other songs with it.
But I will try it again when I get my custom made 8 stringer.Waiting is a hard task!

Just the other day your 2008 song came up on my itunes and that's when this new year really sunk in--it was a weird feeling knowing that song is now a year old. Also a good reminder of how awesome your riffage is. This new clip is also a great example of good riffage, but more and more your recording skills are becoming polished, always sounding much more professional. Can't wait to hear the version with vocals and lead.

8 string! Holy moley! I've tried doing it with my 7, GCGCGCE, but I need a heavier 7th string (currently a 64).

How do you chord in that tuning?
It's actually very easy. The relationship of C to G is the same as low D to A on a guitar tuned to drop D; the relationship from G to C is the same as low E to A on a standard tuned axe. So it alternates between drop tuning & standard all the way across the neck until you get to the 2 highest, C & E, which have the same relationship as the G & B strings in standard tune. I can one-finger two note power chords all over the neck, as well as massive chords with four or five strings by barre-ing one finger. "Real" chording, I dunno, I'm a metal flogger. :D

I highly recommend anyone curious about it throw a set of 10-52 strings on their guitar & try it out. It will open doors to creativity like you wouldn't believe.

Thanks for the compliments, it's flattering to know people are actually listening to this stuff. :) I am very excited to hear my friend's interpretation of it, & he's real gung-ho to get it done, so it should happen quickly. We're both huge King's X fans.

Make sense. I don't have a guitar or I would try it out. :(

My 7. is 68 elixir (has more tension than dr or daddario) ,and low A is already in the limit.

GCGCGCE was really funny to toy around ,and I used it for really slow doom stuff. It's really crushing!

Ah man, that sucks. :( I'm right there with ya as far as tough times go, I've been laid off work since late September.

Love the tone on this...Good to see you back.

Sorry to hear about your job.

Rock on.

Re: NEW CLIP! CGord tries to ape King's X!

I like the Gmajor/B in the main chorus part.

I can hear a bit of 'pillow' sneakin through in some spots, that was one of the most punishing live performances I've ever seen. :D
