New Crazy 8 vs Custom 5 Blues clips at lower gain with my Marshall

Several have commented that with the Prosonic and it's super high gain it was hard to hear the differences in the pickups. I went back and hit two more clips using the yellow channel of my TSL Marshall with the gain set at around 4.5. This fits the style of music better and should give you more of a taste of the Crazy 8 smoothness and compression.
I used the MG 122 with the Custom 5 to compare to the Salas and the Crazy 8 as it is also a Mahogany body guitar. This is as close guitar to guitar as I could get. The Salas is still darker accousticly and has the shorter 24.75 scale so take that into account.
Again no effects one pass straight through just guitar, cable and amp.
I personally really like the ultra smooth singing qualities of the Crazy 8 in these clips what do you think.

Man... I just dont know now. the custom5 has been my favourite passive humbucker for a while but that is just too close to call.

the crazy 8 went from smooth to slightly biting raw tone, so maybe the crazy 8 wins marginally for versatility but i'm still torn.

Good stuff mate.

I still think the C5 is the better of the 2. The 8 just sounds too compressed to my ears.

The C5 clip has more of this bite you usually hear in a bues clip , but the comparison here is not fair because the Salas is darker and with a shorter neck scale so the low mids that alnico 8 bring over the a5 are just enhanced buy the guitar , giving a really different bassy tone .

Logical would lead to put the brightest pickup C5 in the darker guitar and the Crazy 8 in the other one .

Anyway you seem to enjoy in your playing the dark and full tone you get out of your Salas !

I think the Crazy 8 sounds wound too high. Too much wind and not enough magnet...maybe wound down around 9 with increased magnet height would bring out some sparkle.I kinda wondered about that wind when you guys were putting it together but I didn't say anything...I didn't want to be a Grinch. I'm not trying to be critical...just giving my 2Cs.

I agree with you and am right now considering the very same swap you are suggesting. The Crazy 8 seems to have a more buttery smooth high end than the C5 and more of a singing quality on the solos. The Salas seems it needs more bite as the guitar itself is so dark so the C5 may help. I will use the Salas Crazy 8 set up tomorrow on a gig and then decide if I want to do the swap after that.
