New Custom Cab Day!

I love the tone of 15" speakers for guitar... They don't really make more lows than 12" speakers, they just have a sound that is all their own.

I also of course love good 12" speakers... They are the standard for a reason.

So... I found this guy in Richmond who makes any custom crazy cab you could want. It's kind of like Emperor Cabs, only in Richmond, and not Chicago... And he also doesn't make bad comments about Jim Marshall!

I had him make a 2x12 up top and a 1x15 on the bottom... Stained 'Colony Red' with wheat grill.

I loaded her up with 2 Eminence cv-75 16 ohm speakers and a Big Ben 15" 8 ohm speaker.

She sounds GREAT! Cab cost $400 unloaded and was done in under 3 weeks. Guy even drove half way to meet me. He was super cool and to me very reasonably priced.

I have not weighed it, but it doesn't seem any heavier than a standard 4x12... Possibly even lighter. I'm sold on tolex free cabs... It may show dings and stuff when gigging, but it sounds so good.

Hmmm and here I was thinking I was the only one who liked 15s with guitar

Kinda punchier

Doesn't fender put one in one of those short run amps

400 Dollars...!!
If that cab said Mesa, it would be 800-1000 bux.
That sure seems like a good deal to me. Christ, be lucky to sell my unloaded 4x12 for 200 bux :-(

I have always thought that the 15" Big Ben was a good sounding guitar speaker. I think more guys would use it, but most do not have a 15" cab.

Man.....very nice looking cab, and nice speakers.
Well Done.!

Re: New Custom Cab Day!

Man . . . that might be the coolest cab I've ever seen. I'd love to hear her sometime.

Enjoy.

P.S. If you could find the time to post a clip, or a review, I'd love to know how you like that Big Ben. I've got a project for one.

Re: New Custom Cab Day!

Some people claim that 15" speakers don't 'respond' quick enough for metal... But this thing has no problem keeping up with thrash riffs. It sounds bigger and throatier, and does require a lil' different eq to get the same 'bite' as without a 15", but it is a very cool and unique sound. It's like it's wider and fuller without being in the way.

Dang! That is a nice cab and one of my favorite half stack cab configurations. Moves a lot of air and low mids without sacrificing top end.
