New Custom Shop EVH Pickups

Re: New Custom Shop EVH Pickups

That's interesting. The first SD pickup I'm aware of, that hasn't gone quietly into some special release guitar, that is openly using Eddie's name and seems to have his approval for normal distribution. Other than it being an A2 pickup, we don't know anything about the wind. The '78 is a 9k A2 wind.

Oh, I just looked and the IM1 pickup is no longer listed in the custom shop, so I wonder if this is just a renaming of that pickup now with Ed's formal endorsement? That seems likely. Maybe Reily or someone from SD will pop in and give us the 411.

Re: New Custom Shop EVH Pickups

I think this is the pickup in the Frankenstein guitars that EVH sells?

Good eye, as I hadn't noticed it. I will bet the EVH-philes online will find out about the pickup through this post, so hopefully we can get accurate info from the source.

i'm not sure about this info : i think it may be the same that was made for a 300 units limited production signed by eddie. Those had a red frankenstein box instead of the grey one. It sounds completely different from the grey box version and i own both. I have a 78 model and i still think that this is a better pickup for the classic VH tones.

That how I tripped over them. Was looking for some information regarding on the IM1 and couldn't find it on the Custom Shop but was saw these at the bottom.

They may have posted everything they can legally say about it. EVH is sort of...strange...about what he lets people know.

Here we go again...

Wonder if Ed feels old releasing a signature product with a company he once publically accused of using his name without permission to market a pickup he supposedly had nothing to do with

FWIW the cached copy for the IM1 says this:

“Our IM1 is the pickup we developed for one of the most iconic instrument reproductions of all time and to exactly replicate its complex and harmonically explosive tone. A carefully degaussed Alnico 2 magnet and 13.9 DC resistance from Poly wire adds to its bright but ballsy tone.”
