New Duncan Lava Box Distortion/Overdrive Pedal

Re: New Duncan Lava Box Distortion/Overdrive Pedal

I'd really like to try it out. The only thing that turns me off is when pedals have words like rumble that are supposed to describe an effect. I know it doesn't make any difference, I just think it sounds more proffesional to write bass roll-off instead.

Is the lava box true bypass? I see no mention of that on any of the ad copy.

Re: New Duncan Lava Box Distortion/Overdrive Pedal

Yes indeed it is true bypass, and after playing it first hand I can say it lives up to everything Seymour Duncan has said about it. There is a place on your pedalboard for this pedal. You're not getting this sound out of any old DS/TS. Its sweet and smoldery and everything you'd think.

Man, it's time to get real with you guys. I've been stuck on the same OD boxes in front of my tube preamps for years. I have been locked on to the same standard TS/OD/DS tone recipes when it comes to the floor pedals.

I do a lot of tone layering and use a lot of different tube pres, but on the floor I've just been using boosters and half-drives, and letting the preamps do the tones. But these Duncan boxes ARE the tones. The Twin Tube Classic, Lava Box, and all the other prototypes (don't ask because I'm not telling) are true tone generators in their own right. I can send them straight to a clean amp and make real, dynamic "pro" tones. Any time someone comes out with a holy grail floor box it's just a less convincing version of something I can do with my rack tube preamps. Well, I've been home in Chicago for a day now, and I'm making sound samples and I can't believe these sounds are coming from floor boxes. I'm very proud and humbled to be a part of this line.

Hey guys!

I just joined up here on the forum.

I actually joined because I read about the Lava Box and think that it sounds very good. I have one question though - what would it sound like through a solid state amp?

I already have the Tweak Fuzz and I can get a useable tone through my Roland Cube 30 on the Metal channel, with the distortion down low on the amp's channel with most of the gain coming from the Tweak. Some channels on the Roland Cube sound dreadful with the Tweak..... hopefully the Lava Box will give me more useable options to work with.

I'd really love to hear some soundclips too!
