Evan, when you can spill them beans, please tell us what they spec and what they're voiced like. :burnout:

Re: New Duncan Mustaine set - active !!

Very cool. Looks like you got another best seller on your hands.

Re: New Duncan Mustaine set - active !!

Mmm, I'm getting more tempted. Might have to wait and see what the price... if they're too much dearer than say the LiveWires, I'll have to pass... but dang! so tempting

Re: New Duncan Mustaine set - active !!

Dangit, and I just got the Jazz+JB combo! :D
I dunno if I would've gotten those or not, but it would've been part of my decision-making process. I prefer passive, so that I don't go through batteries (I go through enough of them as is). And I agree, the chrome and DM sig on them is sort of a turn-off, as I'd prefer the seymour duncan logo, but oh well. I think the addition of this set, however, is a very good thing, and I'm excited to see where it goes!

Re: New Duncan Mustaine set - active !!

I think Duncan could do very well in the active pickup market if they tackled it aggressively. I love EMGs and think they are great pickups....but I wish they had more models of pickups to choose from and had chrome, black-chrome, gold covers etc instead of just the plastic ones they have now.

There's a void to be filled I think if EMG isn't going to jump on it.

I would assume 2 pots (vol + tone), stereo Jack and Battery clip per pickup, a lá EMG

As stated in the pic in the original Post, they´re voiced like a JB/ Jazz set ;)

Well it depends on who is installing the pickups and what they want from their guitar. I've played the Epi Zach Wilde sig. and the EMG H4 passives are very nice. I don't like active much, due to battery consumption. EMG H4s, at least to me, sound almost "too" accurate, as if I'm putting a microphone to an unplugged electric guitar. Too clinical for my needs: I need a little more spice. However, some people like that, and I can respect Metallica's ears as well. I like the JB/Jazz sound more, but then again, like I said, it's preference. There's no "best for everyone and everything" pickup set. However, in my little world, JB/Jazz rules.

Re: New Duncan Mustaine set - active !!

You can always order a shop floor custom version without the signature if you're willing to wait four weeks.

USA list price will be $259 for the neck & bridge set. They'll ship in early-February.

Re: New Duncan Mustaine set - active !!

thanks for the info Evan!! one more thing, can they only be ordered as a set or can just a bridge model with pots and such be ordered alone for those 1 hum 80s guitars i have too many of LOL.

I'll be selling one of my guitars to purchase an H/H axe. You can all look for my review in February!

+1000000000000000000000

I'm afraid there is one observation i would like to make though........i think a lot of people are going to look elsewhere just because of the looks..... if i have read everything correctly these are going to be even more limiting as far as appearance goes than the emgs......at least with emgs you can choose between black/white/creme........I do not mean to criticise Duncan before they even get these pickups on the market but the new pups seem very interesting and i don't want to miss the chance of trying them just because of available options/aesthetic issues
Some other interesting points i would like to know: saying that these new active duncans are modelled after the JB/Jazz combination means they will have a similar EQ but with the higher output associated with active pickups ?????
Will it be possible to order the new pickups separately and not as a set?

Re: New Duncan Mustaine set - active !!

Finally! Haha...I really love EMGs and Duncans, my favorite passive being the JB. This set could be a pretty sweet winner!
