Evan said we'd see them by the end of the year. I have the prototypes in two of my Strats...the ones I gig with. They are the best hum-free Strat pickups I've heard. I'd say they have about 85% of the vintage tone but that the mids are about 10-15% thicker and the highs are about 10-15% smoother/warmer...and that's why they have 85% of the vintage tone instead of 100%. They are fabulous pickups with a totally inspiring tone even though they do not sound exactly like the pickups in my '63 Strat or the Surfers in most of my other Strats. They will be a HUGE HUGE hit when they are finally released...no doubt about it. Better than the Fender Noiseless pickups I have tried...although I thought those were pretty good too, all in all.

I have not. But I sent Christian both of my prototype sets to check out and he compared one set to Kinmans. Christian has ears that I trust and he told me he liked the Duncans a little better than the Kinmans. I've heard recordings of the Kinmans...they sounded like sweet pickups too!
Of course the guy doing the playing is what you're really listening to when you hear recordings and samples. If the player is mediocre you're going to think the pickups are mediocre. If the guy can create a musical tone and has good hands, then the pickup will sound "good". Lew

I say that pretty much makes them just about the same as whats on todays market maybe 5% better at the most.
because thats what happens when you cancle hum with these designs, more mids smoother highs. more bass...
I'm Glad it a step up in a better direction-- I always like seeing R&D wheels moving into the future.
IDEA***How about a Seymour Duncan sheilding kit-included with their regular single coils --but yet with copper sheilding already around the single coils and the covers have had their insides sprayed with lead paint. for the VINTAGE PURIST AT HEART??? and we put an end to messing up the pickups mid's bass and treble all in the name of HUM Reduction.

The new Duncans are extremely musical sounding though...they have a very pleasant and musical tone. I don't feel like I'm missing anything or like I want to hear something else when I'm playing them. I DO feel that way when I've played every other noiseless Strat pickup that I've owned or tried. Lew

Damn Lew, I'm jealous you have gotton to play with the proto's so long!!
I'm guessing we will see these introduced at Winter NAMM .... I hope they are as good as you say they are!!

If you want noiseless, kinmands are teh ****e. You can ask chirs to wind them anyway you want. He is a good aussie bloke like that. Ive heard a standard Strat, Noiseless kinmans, and noiseless Duncans, and the Kinmans Win Hands down. Only because they come in a few more flavours. But i'm sure the new Duncans, when they arrive, will give Chris Kinman's a run for his money.

The bridge is thicker sounding and hotter than a stock vintage 60's Strat bridge pickup. But it's not thick like a 8.2K paf humbucker. Lew

I'll compare them and see. I have a Strat with a Twangbanger and a Strat with the Antiquity I Custom bridge. Might take me a day or two to get around to it but I'll compare them and see. I think all three will be comparable, but that the Twangbanger might sound a little stronger than the other two. When I compared it to the Ant I Custom bridge and Fralin Steel Pole 43 I felt that the Twangbanger was the loudest. It'll probably be louder than the Strat Stack Plus bridge pickup too. But we'll see. Lew

I'm keen to know how the stack plus bridge compares to the Twangbanger. Also would fitting a baseplate to a stack plus defeat the object of the pickup in the first place?

I don't want to give away all the secrets on the STK-S4 Classic Stack Plus (oh damn, I guess I just gave away the name) before it's released. However, I will say that it's an extremely unique, patent-pending, design involving new technology and new uses of materials.
Also, each individual pickup is hand-calibrated, using a device called (and I kid you not) The Helmholtz Coil to achieve optimal hum-cancellation.
