The new pickup will be called the STK-S4 Classic Stack Plus (sorry, TGWIF) and will eventually replace the current STK-S1 Classic Stack. The STK-S2 Hot Stack will remain in the line. For now...

LOL, call me psychic :laugh2:

Thanks, Evan

Re: New Duncan stacks

Hi Lew! When are these available and do you think they would work with a Pearly gates bridge?

Re: New Duncan stacks

There's some other cool elements to these pickups that we're not discussing in detail yet. A patent has been filed on some new technology. It's pending at the moment. Each individual pickup will processed in such a way that they'll be fine-tuned for the optimal hum resistance. That's all I can say about it for now.

Hopefully, they'll be available in stores before the end of the year.

Thanks Evan! Looks like I'll hold out on modifying my Strat. Do you know if they work with a Pearly Gates bridge???

Re: New Duncan stacks

Is the bridge going to be a little "hotter"?? I'm really stoked for these and am dying to try them in my SRV strat.

Re: New Duncan stacks

Yes, they'll work with a Pearly Gates bridge. And yes, the bridge will be a little hotter. Also, there will be a dedicated middle pickup.

Re: New Duncan stacks

Hmmmmmmm.... Looks like I've decided which SD's to replace my Fender 57/62's with (that poor Strat... Will the modifications ever cease?).

Are they shooting for the same sound as the classic stacks??

Also, anyone familiar with the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage series?? How might these compare I wonder???

Right now word on the street is that the Virtual Vintage are incredible as are the Dimarzio HS3 and 2 series.

Re: New Duncan stacks

My understanding is that they use alnico 5 polepieces. This latest version also has the polepieces raised in a little more of an arch and that puts them closer to the middle four strings and results in a slightly snappier and brighter tone than the previous prototypes I tried. I would say that the tone of the neck and middle pickups of these prototypes is the closest to the tone of a vintage '62 or '63 style Fender single coil that I have yet heard from a hum-cancelling single coil size pickup. The difference I hear when I compare these to the Surfers, SSL-1 or the '63 pickups in my original '63 Strat is that the Stack Plus tone is slightly thicker in the upper mids and that this extra thickness is especially pronounced when chords or partial chords or pedal steel type licks are played. What I hear as this "extra thickness" in the "upper mids" seems to be harmonics that are present in my '63 Strat pickups but which are slightly more pronounced in the Stack Plus prototypes. I would guesstimate that they are about 10% or 15% more pronounced in the new Stack Plus prototypes. This is not a bad thing at all...just a subtle difference that I doubt most people would even notice unless they had a real '63 Strat to compare them to...and I do. In fact, I actually tried these new pickups in my original '63 Strat because I was doing a little repair to the wiring of this guitar when Evan sent me the latest version of the Stack Plus. So I went ahead and put them in my '63 Strat for a couple of weeks. I think these are going to be a God-send for pro's and semi-pro players who play onstage alot and who love the tone of a vintage Strat but can't live with the hum we get from lights, poorly wired stages, etc. Because these have virtually no hum and they sound terrific. Lew

thanks lew,
and I think these are going to be a God-send, too for amateurs and double-amateurs who play at home alot and who love the tone of a vintage Strat but can't live with the hum we get from computers, a tv, etc. :fing25:

Re: New Duncan stacks

Here’s a little tidbit about the Classic Stack Plus that no one outside Seymour Duncan knows about – until now.

If you split all three Stack Pluses in a typical Strat setup so that only the top coils are active, you’ll still get hum-canceling in positions “2” and “4” on your five-way switch.

How cool is that?

Re: New Duncan stacks

This is the pickup ive been waiting for to replace the damn Fender Noiseless i got in the neck position of my strat! I had a full set and i didn't realy like them, i found it lacked... everything lol.. so replaced the mid and bridge ones with HS-2 & 3's but always been looking forward to replace the damn neck one but im not rich enough to buy every single pickup i want and test them out... yet lol. I got the HS's wire to a DPDT on/off switch to split the coils and use the top one giving it just a slight output increase and gives a great vintage tone.. tho i cant wait to see how these new turn out and from what i hear they're just to good to be true and ill end up replacing them all for a full set? ...and the GAS returns lol o_O

off topic.. the 3 is staggered and ive always wondered if they just gave me a yngwie model and just put it in a HS-3 box?? i asked for a HS-3 and then noticed that its not usualy staggered poles, its the same pickup anyways or prety damn close anyhow..
