New Duncan stacks

LEW::: how much are they about?

I don't know. I'll know when I get the invoice.

Someone mentioned the new Stack Plus as possibly making his SSL-1/SSL-1/Twangbanger set obsolete...I don't really think that will be the case.

The SSL-1's still get closer to the tone of an actual early 60's Fender Strat pickup and those and the Antiquity Surfers are still a little brighter and chimier and more vintage accurate.

And the Twangbanger has a hotter tone with more mids that pushes my amp amp harder than the new Stack Plus pickups do.

But the Stack Plus pickups have great, great tone...and they are noiseless. I've been playing them and only them all summer and fall and I've totally gotten used to the slightly warmer, slightly thicker tone they have.

It's a very comfortable and inspiring tone that they have.

You can get a rough idea if you look at Evan's post #31 in this thread. He touches on it there.

Cheers for that Lew. I guess I've just got to ensure my Legacy's shielded as well as poss!! If they come up with a noiseless Twangbanger/SSL-1/SSL-1 type set, I'll be first on the list!

I dunno about the Twangbanger but the Stack Plus is already as close as humanly possible to the tone of the SSL-1 and the Antiquity Surfer. It's the absolute closest I've ever heard to a vintage Strat pickup in a noiseless design. I'd say it's lacking about 5%: just about 5% or so more thickness in the upper mids than a real single coil. It's a spectacular pickup...just about 5% warmer and thicker than a SSL-1, Surfer or a real '63 Strat pickup. There will always be some kind of slight diff in tone when you're comparing true single coils with a stacked or humbucking design...but Duncan has got about as close as you can get with this design I think.

And from what I understand each Stack Plus is individually tuned! There are little tiny resistors on the bottem of the pickup and from what I understand the value of those resistors might vary a bit from pickup to pickup to allow for the tuning.
