New Dunlop Tortex III

Re: New Dunlop Tortex III

Has anyone tried these. New Tortex with Jazz III tip. I've heard great things. I have been using the Ultex Sharp's(Mainly 73's) but I am going to definitely try these.

I bought a handfull when I first saw them but I haven't even tried them yet.

Truth is I just can't seem to go back to a normal size pick after using Jazz IIIs.

I pickup a normal size Fender 351 or Dunlop Tortex pick and it feels like I'm trying to play guitar with a pie pan...they are just too damn big!

Re: New Dunlop Tortex III

I have been looking for some new picks, everybody says Jazz III but maybe I will try these also.

Re: New Dunlop Tortex III

They're a lot like the Ultex sharps. I've tried all three, and those don't really have a Jazz III tip on them, just a sharper point that's not nearly as radical as the Tortex Sharps.

The pitch blacks aren't anything special. The tone is warm for me. Jumbo Nylon Jazz 3s are nice, I stick with standard size picks though.

LOL, know what you mean. I use small teardrops, even J3's feel huge to me.

Re: New Dunlop Tortex III

I like the standard Jazz III ( small, pointy, and black ) the best. Anything else feels huge. Anybody try any of the Red Bear picks? There a favorite of Dweezel and Govin.

Once they make a JazzIII XL in Delrin, I'm there. Until then, I'll just say meh and keep using the planet waves black ice.

Re: New Dunlop Tortex III

The Ultex sharps are the exact same shape, which I really like. These are great picks, I work for GC and we haven't started carrying them yet. Hopefully we will soon and I'll get me some!

Re: New Dunlop Tortex III

Wow you guys are using some very thin picks (.50, .73). Are you using light strings? Personally I can't stand anything below 1.14, except maybe for acoustic strumming.

+1

Not only for the size, but my playing articulation goes down with any other pick.

Well, you gotta keep in mind, how much a pick flexes is not only dependent on thickness (and materials, naturally) but also on size and shape. Teardrop or small teardrop picks don't need to be as thick, since they're smaller and shorter, so the preassure or force being applied to them when you're pressing it against the string won't be as great as it would be if the pick was "longer".

Re: New Dunlop Tortex III

When it comes to Tortex or Ultex I've usually used .73's. Nylons, I've used thicker gauges. I'm using Ultex Sharps .73 now even though I've tried the .90's. I was waiting for GC to get some of these Tortex TIII's just to give them a try.

Are you saying the Tortex III's are great picks?
