New Eminence Karnivore speaker

That sounds interesting based on the description.

However, I hear the typical Eminence hollow mids in the samples in the vid to varying degrees.

It might be a great compliment to a V30 in a hybrid setup, but he repeatedly mentions "grindy" highs, "raw and uncontrolled" upper mids, extended frequencies, etc, which I think is a turn-off for many. I mean, that's the sort of thing many players are actually trying to improve upon when they upgrade their stock speakers, LOL!

That's what I was thinking. But it could sell just for the cool graphics alone.

I bet a cab loaded with both V30s and Karnivores would sound massive!

Very distinct sounding to me (I'm on studio monitors).

If I could only have one speaker, though, I'd stick with the V30. There are too many variables to account for in these types of shoot-outs and we all know the V30 can hold its own.

Here's Someone with Good Instinct ( The MOST Qty. of identical models I use in 4x Cabs is 2 ~ Typicaly I have 4 different ones , 1 of them has 1-G12m 70 (80's) , 1-70's Rola Alnico Whizzer cone, 1-G12 EVH Blkbk & 1 1971 T1523 o-g Celestion

i mix pairs, but ive never put four speakers in one cab. which one gets mic'd for live work?

the G12 Eddie VH ( Actually for recording I'm still rotating around for different Tunes ~ I Write and Play Standard E and Drop-C tunings )

I was doing some work years ago in East L.A., Calif on a friends house + His friend had the Day-off ( He was a Hispanic dude who was a Full-time Car Stereo installer and knew what he was talking about ( I mentioned that I had to stop at B52 on the way home and pickup a head ( 2 miles from there) He gave me a power lesson on Ohmages and Resistors , Power and Mixing and matching Components for Maximum output and Quality doing whatever unconventional things they had to Try once knowing the Math. i realized i knew nothing of how to Tune and Manipulate Speakers thru Ohmages and resistors < Conservatively to Accomplish Diiferent Power Percentages for Desired Speakers. U Cant do that by hooking up and Wiring 4 of the Same in Parallel series , Series or Parallel. Your Stuck with 1 Sound. so for 20yrs now i have Infintely more options. Of Course for Having a 1-of-a kind Cabinet for playing Studio , live and Recording with whichever Tube heads but Also ( as U asked) for Mic'ing up for P.A. or for Recording < which is Actually the more Critical + Rewarding options > the Options are many

I tried mixing a bunch of pairs in my Marshall some years ago. It started with Vintage 30's with the stock T-75's, then G12-EVH's in place of the T-75's, then Creamback H-75's in place of the EVH's, then Relic 30's in place of the Vintage 30's.

In the end I just stuck with four regular Greenbacks in there. I realized mixing speakers was not for me. My main argument is there's always one pair that I like more than the other, and I feel like I'm just watering down the pair that I like more with the other rather than "adding" to it.

YMMV, but I also prefer the simplicity of mic'ing up one speaker. Because of production tolerances, even the same kind of speaker sounds distinctly different for the four inside a 4x12, so it's not like I feel I'm missing out on options either. And I already obsess a lot on dialing the amp in for that particular speaker to try to dial it in for two (or more) types of speakers at the same time.

JMO, of course. But I prefer simpler signal chains, personally. The more componenents you add, the harder the variables become to control, I feel.

Actually Rex , This started because Jeremy asked ME a question on which Speaker (or Speakers I Mic ) it's Not really about Anything u mentioned. Do u know why U ended up with a Cabinet full of Greenbacks ? I DO. ( I'll leave it alone for rt now. + This should really be a Whole Thread but didn't intend that. Listen up ~ in 86 -87 me and other Guitarist in a So-cal band ended up with 2 ~ 4x12 cabinets that came from Rob howell who got them from a dude named Frank Moreno ( He grew up down the Street from Him in Canada ) and they both play Gibson SG's. frank ended up on Tour Under-gunned and Acquired these 2 Live from a charitble guy named Tony Iommi. I owned 1 and my other guitarist owned 1 , but These were the Best Cabinets We had ever heard ( with Marshall heads at the Time) so a few months after it Became my Primary cabinet my drummer was running late and I decided to open up a couple of speakers to see what what type of Celestions that Tony had installed - i was Shocked to find that NO CELESTIONS were Inside + was in Disbelief. there were . . . .Wait I dont even know if I should ( or U deserve : ) me to run it down ( I'll be back tonight after I work on another cabinet for a Couple of hours ( bee gettin' roadblocked + I REALLY want to Get a certain tune Recorded this coming weekend

No need to get defensive, man. I was just adding to the conversation that mixing speakers doesn't work for me. I'm sure your cab sounds great.

I'm just saying that for my own stuff, I tend to stick to four or five Celestion models (only one type per cab, tho) that I know work for me. Even within the Celestion lineup, there's plenty that I don't like.

But then again, what do I know. I'm certainly not Tony Iommi. I'm just some guy in a forum. But I think I've nitpicked enough speakers to know what works for me.
