New Epiphone Genesis

Lots of folk here swear by their Epis, so here's a new one (well, a revival of an old one) that looks kinda interesting. Reminds me of the Ibanez Bob Weir model that was around in the late 70s.

Probucker pups; coil split; Grovers. Headstock is a bit goofy to me but, overall, it seems like a lot of guitar for the $$.

Re: New Epiphone Genesis

I remember the original MIJ Epiphone Genesis from photographs and reports in The Melody Maker. I do not recall ever seeing one displayed in any UK music store window.

I understand the comparison that is being drawn with the Ibanez but it also shows some influence of the mighty Yamaha SG 2000/3000 series.

Re: New Epiphone Genesis

I much prefer this headstock over the normal Epi, or even the Epi Japan headstocks.

That said, the guitar is fuggly, IMO. 339 pro is where I would go if I wanted a smaller body size double cut.

Re: New Epiphone Genesis

First word that came to mind was "Gimp".

Those cutaways just ain't doing it for me... Or the body's too wide or something.

Reminds me of this.

Re: New Epiphone Genesis

The headstock outline is a traditional Epiphone design.

On reflection, those stubby double cutaways remind me of one of Stanley Clarke's Alembic piccolo basses.

The double cutaway ESP and LTD will remind older forumites of the Ibanez Artist, only with some controls and the ornate tailpiece missing.

In the end, a "nearly" Les Paul is never as cool as the real deal.

A-ha!

My lord. I have a cunning plan. Out with the Epi pickups. In with the TV Jones!!!

Re: New Epiphone Genesis

Seems like good features on paper but I hate that body shape...

YUP, i LOVE the double cut away (just look at the early 80's Ibanez Artist & AX series, DBZ Royale, Gretsch Double Jet, Gibson LP Jr, Vox 55 series, Framus Hollywood, Martin Booth Std, and, and, and) but this one leaves me cold !

Hell, even the Yamaha SG-series is easier on the eyes, imo.

My brother has an original Genesis that he bought new in 1980. That thing must weigh 12 pounds. I could probably kill someone with it. That damned thing is neck heavy too. Hopefully the new ones are better.
