Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

pretty cool - wonder how they sound compared to the maple neck/board ones

i am not a fan of bound necks though - pretty enough to look at, i suppose, but the feel usually isnt as comfortable to my hand

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

I should also mention that retail is an insane $2500+ thanks to Fender's global price increase. Yes, retail, not MSRP.

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

I always liked those bound neck 60's Strats...they are quite rare but look nice. Anyway, the STREET price is over $2500 and thats just too much for a non CS FEnder IMHO...

Im betting they sound like the maple one but with a rosewood fingerboard and if life has thought me anything the difference will be very small but most guys on most forums will make it out to be a night and day difference.

The one thing I HATE about bound necks is the increased cost of a refret!

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

That price is higher than I am at the moment.

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

I must be watching too many old EJ videos ...... it seems like the necks are always all maple.

:laugh2:

That's cool that they finally came out with these. I saw a video on Musician's Friend of EJ demoing the prototype of this with his maple-boarded ones. I sounded about like you'd expect a rosewood-boarded strat to sound... fatter and not as edgy.

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

wow took some time to release this model... I have the hots for rosewood board strats these days...

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

I've been waiting for this one for a year, I think it looks SWEET and the EJ strat is one of the best out there. But $2500 OUCH! I was expecting a slight upcharge for the binding, maybe 2 grand tops. But $2500 is nuts for a non custom shop strat. Mad GAS though, holy...

here in Canada they will retail for more then $2500 i'm sure and i can grab a 1960 Custom Shop NOS strat for $2850 these days locally....

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

Played one and it completely freaked me out. I just can't get used to a bound neck on a strat. It just seems wrong somehow. Sounded OK, needed to be set up, but that bound fretboard was a deal-breaker for me.

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

Wow, a slight variation on a guitar already made, you wouldn't expect that from Fender at all *sarcasm*
When is Fender actually going to make something...........new?

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

I'm completely impressed with my maple necked original EJ strat. Greatest strat I've ever touched.

+1 on all accounts

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

2500$????!

screw fender is all i have to say

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

Does it also have an angled headstock? Isn't it missing string trees?

The maple board EJ Strat has staggered-height tuners so that it doesn't need a string tree. I'm assuming that the new one is the same.

Re: New Eric Johnson strats - with bound rosewood board

$ 2,500.00 and it doesn't even have 22 frets?

Looks like Fender really thinks that a sucker is born every minute...
