New EVH Wolfgang?

Re: New EVH Wolfgang?

the string pull is still going to be there, regardless turne one or wired in or no.. the magnet underneath works 24/7, so if you want to cancel all string pull, you need to remove the pickup

Or throw in some active pickups. Magnetism on those is very weak, all the volume and output come from the preamp.

WhoFan, have you noticed a difference at all in sustain (string pull) if you have removed the pickups you've disconnected from the circuit? Just wondering if that would make any noticeable effect, good or bad, in leaving them in, or removing the unwanted pickups.

I have not really noticed any real sustain difference from removing neck pickups..... a few of my guitars have holes where pickups used to be.... some i just remove the wires and leave it so it looks like it is complete....

These days, most of the reason i have done this is because i bought great aftermarket bridge position Pickups and have not added matching neck PUs.... I find i like medium-high output humbuckers and when you add those to say a Fender strats the stock pickups are too weak to be a good match. Or some of the reasons like my Epiphones i hate the cheap pots, wire and switches they use so i disconnected that stuff and just wired the bidge humbucker to a new quality pot and out

But i also do this single Pickup thing because this is just what i'm used to.... Single Humbuckers were the rage when i was teen in the 80's.... the Kramer Baretta's were the guitar to own back then, but saddly i never owned a good one! I used to buy pickguards for my strats with single humbuckers and remove the other stock stuff......

I also like simple stuff... A single Pot and a single pickup to a jack.... plain and simple.... But i find i used neck pickups for clean sounds.... I have guitars that i call my GIG guitars and these i use in bands and stuff.... they all have front and back working PU's in them for clean sounds.... my main 2 guitars for band work is a Godin Solidac and a Jackson super strat....

That's funny, I have a couple with just the neck pickup for the same reason. Couldn't pass up the deal, and couldn't find another like 'em to put in the bridge.
