New Fender 68 Deluxe Reverb Reissue

I just noticed this.....which ships in September 2013. Fender Vintage Modified Series version of a 68 'drip edge' Deluxe Reverb, with some updated features.

I've always liked the look of pristine silverface amps, and my 74 Pro Reverb has a blue jewel lamp just like this reissue......it looks better than a red light against all the blue accents on the amp.

I know it's another PCB amp made in Mexico, but it looks to be a pretty nice version of a Deluxe Reverb. It'll probably be too limited to even find one in a showroom.

[edit] I'm glad to see it's got handwired tube sockets and upgraded transformers. That's a big plus.

that's kinda funny ... I guess silverface amps really are considered vintage now, even reissues, 'cause it says so right on the faceplate.

should be a great amp though ... the DRs are just the right size for a lot of things.
I've got an early blonde DRRI that's just great with a strat.

This looks far more interesting to me than a 65DRRI, but I am weird like that with Fenders.

A silverface Deluxe Reverb was the first amp I ever used. It was my dad's. He later bought a '67ish blackface Vibro-Champ for me which had a Telefunken 12AX7 in it. I still have the Telefunken and old Fender (RCA?) tubes from those amps, but not the amps themselves.

I have an original but the speaker was replaced. I also have a Super reverb and would love to get a Princeton reverb (same year). This looks pretty cool and will be interesting to compare to mine

I don't know one fender from another but it looks cool. What's drip edge mean?

The drip edge was used on the very first silverface amps (mid-late 67) and was discontinued (Fender ran out is my guess) in 69. They're cooler because there are fewer in existence.

I saw these a few days ago...there is a 68 Princeton Reverb, Deluxe and Twin Reverb but I must say no thanks...

You can buy a real silver face Fender, get these same mods done (Bruce Collins has been doing them for years!) and end up with an amp thats MUCH better quality than these "reissues" for the same or less money...

Come on Christian, you've got to realize that not everyone wants to do that. To many it's much easier to go out and buy a brand new amp with a manufacturer's warranty from a respected dealer where there's a guarantee of customer service. Hunting down a vintage amp and getting it modified isn't for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with that.

For anyone that was going into a music store to buy a DRRI, this seems like a very good alternative.

To many it's much easier to go out and buy a brand new amp with a manufacturer's warranty from a respected dealer where there's a guarantee of customer service. Hunting down a vintage amp and getting it modified isn't for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with that.

For anyone that was going into a music store to buy a DRRI, this seems like a very good alternative.

PCB amp, outsourced to Mexico for more money than a vintage, US made amp with higher quality parts...

I see the bit about wanting a warranty but this is how I feel about that...

Just my 2 cents...no right, no wrong...just my personal feelings.

Original Silver Face Deluxes go for 1500 - almost 2000 bucks now, so no you can't go pick one up for the same price. And you may need to sink 2-300 bucks into it to get it gig ready. I don't typically like reissue fenders but I'm willing to give this a try. Hopefully not as shrill as a 65 DRRi can be.

You guys both have some crazy ideas on pricing. SFDRs go for 800-1200 from what I've seen. At that price it will cost you more to get a vintage unit and have it modded than to get one of these. I hear people say all the time that they wouldn't pay over X for a silverface amp but they've been going up in price.

Maybe my pricing is a tad out of touch but my opinion is unchanged...I still think that buying an older SF Fender and spending a little money on it will yield a much better amp for a little more money in the end.

Again, I am not saying that my way is right or wrong, it's just the way I would do it and I do think that it will get the end user a better build and sounding amp.

Crack open an old Fender...any era really until the early/mid 80's and you'll see handwired tag boards loaded with Allen Bradley, Mallory and Sprague parts, USA made paper bobbin transformers as well as CTS pots, switchcraft jacks and switches, high quality USA made tube sockets and even high quality wire.

I have to ask...whats cheep about that and if you know what amp builder used better parts??

I find it funny that really all they have done here is change the faceplate, grille cloth, and add trim to a DRRI and sell it for a couple hundo more. Same amp on the inside, people. Nothing to see here.

Hiwatt, but that's not really an apples to apples comparison.

I agree with you for the most part, but if you can find an original '68 drip-edge/black line Deluxe Reverb for under $2K you should buy it ASAFP.
