Thanks, man! I'm not much of a Zelda guy, but there's some cool tunes from Link's Adventure that I may consider. You can count on some more Final Fantasy or Castlevania to come though:fing2:

I used my Epiphone Korina Explorer, Schecter C-1 Stealth, Digitech GNX3, and Tascam Pocketstudio 5 digital recorder.

You have a Tascam Pocketstudio 5 too? Very cool. You gotta let me know what settings you use on your songs. The tones I got out of it were pretty mediocre.

Dang Biu . . . I just got a chance to listen to these. Excellent!
I just wish Megaman was longer. :;):

Re: NEW: Final Fantasy VI and Megaman 2!!!

I liked the "Shadow's Theme" ditty quite a bit, however I think the Megaman one needed a bit more of a loose feel to it. I dunno, I was listening to it and, while I liked the tone and the drum track, it seemed to be lacking a certain character to it. The picking sounded a little stale, I guess, but everything else was fine.
You're a great guitar player, so don't take my little complaints as gospel truth.

You do however need to check this site out (if you haven't already, that is):
http://www.ocremix.org/index.php

Specifically look at these remixes:
Ailsean's "Terra in Black" and "Final Ecstasy"
Vigilante's "The Zero Sacrifice" (although you do manage to sound tighter on the delivery in both your pieces)
most, if not all, of the Castlvania remixes.

In addition, there was a "Shadow's Theme" remix by K.Praslowicz (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00271) that sounded good and has kind of a neat low-fi/smokey bar mysterious kind of quality to it yours was a lot cleaner in terms of delivery.
Good stuff.
I too have been interested in remixing video game music but haven't had the time nor the equiqment. Although I do always test out the distorted channels on most amps with the "Brinstar (red)" theme from Metroid, the main FF6 theme, and the "Mute City" lead line from F-Zero.
I've found that one can actually learn a lot of fundamental things about music, melody, composition, and arrangement via video game tunes. These video game musicians are serious and often overlooked in the creativity department. They can capture you from the get go with a really simple melody, and just reel you in later with something really beatiful, intricate, and atmospheric.. If any of you are interested check out composer Nobuo Uematsu (specifically the Final Fantasy 7 OST and the score from Final Fantasy 4). It's not really guitar based music (although guitar is present), nor is it the blues, nor is it neo-classical wankery, it is, plain and simple, great music.

Whoa! Lot's of stuff to answer. :32:

the_Chris, the Tascam Pocketstudio 5 can be a little tricky. First, you gotta start out with a decent tone. I don't like the guitar effects it's got on there, so I use my GNX3. The next thing is to pan all the tracks. I always pan my rhythm tracks (2 of them overdubbed) 63 left and 63 right. That really fattens up the sound. Then, make sure you're not recording the tracks at too high of a level, otherwise you'll get a lot of overloading signals and nasty signal pops and cracks. Besides that, it's all in your fingers, man! :13: Just mess around with it a little more, I'm sure you'll be able to get it sounding good.

\m/(00)\m/, The GNX3 is really good. Lot's of options. The cab-size option REALLY affects the tone. You can take a setting you wouldn't normally like or use and mold it to your liking. The warp knob is great too. I like mixing the high-gain distortions with a vintage crunch. The only problem is, if you don't know what you're doing, it's REALLY easy to dial in a bad sound. It has A LOT of effects too. Some are just so far out, they almost have no use. So overall, if you don't get caught up in over-tweaking your tone or excessively using high amounts of FX, it will give you great tone and infinite amounts of options--tonewise.

Closed Eye, I really appreciate the comments! I agree that the Megaman 2 song was a bit bland, but that's all the song really was. It was just 2 measures of looped music on the game, so that's all I played; otherwise, I woulda put in some of my own stuff, which I probably should've done, heh :smack:
Thanks for the site, by the way. I haven't gotten any of the music to play yet, but I'll figure it out. It turns out my brothers have been going to that site religiously for a while now. They are pretty big game-freaks. They go to stores and buy videogames at least once daily! :saeek: now, that's some serious game GAS!

Re: NEW: Final Fantasy VI and Megaman 2!!!

Aha! So your secret is the GNX3, huh? ;) That's why. I can get some decent tones out of the effects that are built in, but they always lack real tone.

Anyways, great job with recording with the Tascam :D

I never messed with the panning before, that's a great idea.

Megaman music rules, I love Ken's theme song especially, and I think you should play some Final Fantasy VII or Chrono Trigger next ;)

Keep on rocking :headbang:

Hey guys, there's quite a community for remixing video game music. Most of it is great expertly written stuff that isn't taken as seriously as it should be. Lately I've been writing and recording music for some pc games, software companies. Check out this remix of Big Blue from F-zero, it's not mine, I'm not sure who did it, but I think it's awesome.

Hey, is this by the Minibosses? They rock! I remember some of their Castlevania stuff. That was cool

Re: NEW: Final Fantasy VI and Megaman 2!!!

it actually isn't, it's mislabeled in the file info, I just never bothered to change it. This is way above the playing ability of those guys.
