new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

Happy day :) What do you think of the tone? I got podfarm plugin and all the amp models and effects etc. on sale today. Im using the amp presets and even though Im reamping, Im not really adjusting the amps much lol. Should I make adjustments to my guitar/bass tone from the presets? What do you think? Here are some clips:

reamped podfarm http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7481623

what do you think of the tone? the effects? Im going for neurosis meshuggah type sound but I like the sound of slowness. Im panning 2 guitar tracks 100% left and right, and 2 guitar tracks panned 80% left and right. So with podfarm, 8 amps/settings lolerz

Im the guitarist/bassist/recording engineer.

signal path: epi sg-->emg81/85-->podfarm-->reaper (eqs and master limiter quickly adjusted/added)

sounds frickin' heavy and well filled out pan-wise. do you have a modulated track somewhere on the right? i kept hearing some sort or warbly-sumthin':?: very cool though:)

thanks for listening bro! :beerchug:

I am questioning everything in this song, being mad scientist about it :)

I have 2 bass tracks; one is normal panned 10% left, the other is big muff rumble panned 10% to the right; I want a big RATM rumble but not sure how to tweak it more...

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

Sounds a lot like the stuff Happy Dude used to post.

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

I changed my forum handle etc etc. The admins kindly helped me out, many thanks.

I like it. Metal is at it's best when it's scraping dirt off the floor, so to speak.

None of that squealy stuff.

thanks, I think its passing the 'smell test' for glaring tone issues that I sometimes overlook.

I like straightforward riffage with no harmonic squeels, I can solo but dont like to much and dont like listening to solos unless they are short and obscure or have serious theory behind it a la miles davis or joe satriani.

Im having alot of fun with this, Im gonna make it more complex and make a song out of it.

Thanks for listening/insights :beerchug:

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

sounds pretty **** heavy dude :headbang:, i only have one remark and its where sometimes it can sound a bit too "boomy" maybe try a parametric eq with a very high bandwidth (or "Q") around 120-140hz or something, that usualy works for me to remove "boomyness" in the low end.

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

cool, thanks for listening, Ill try the parametric eq, this is good feedback :beerchug:

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

Hmm. I love it, overall, just for its sheer **** heaviness.

However, I actually prefer the Gearbox version. I just think the different guitars are more pronounced in that version. Although the first version is more crushingly heavy.
The first version also has some exceptionally cool, evil little atmospheric noises (I'm gonna assume you did it on purpose!) but I'd prefer if they were a wee bit higher in the mix. It IS a droning kinda riff, and those wee sounds would add a lot to the overall atmosphere IMO if you could hear them a bit better.

Listening again, I think that Gearbox version sounds awesome, I definetely prefer it.

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

Oh, BTW although I like solos, I think for what you do it doesn't really need it. You seem to be going for a doomy, droning sorta heavier than hell type thing - solos would just detract from that I think.
If you work this into a full song a solo would be mandatory at some point, but I think some cool evil noises of the type you already had would be just as effective for most of the piece.

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

Thanks Diocletian, much appreciated. I was thinking of deleting old gearbox guitars on past songs and adding new podfarmplugin ones, but now I think my time is better spent being creative and working on new songs.

Glad you dig the heaviness and the atmospheric sounds, Im planning to make them more of a part of the everdrone sound. I dig that the music scene is moving forward from the nu-metal era of 2000 with 0% solos, cause in live shows guitar solos are awesome and I think recordings should tastefully reflect that. Thanks for listening and your comments :)

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

The music scene of the early 2000s might have not had guitar solos ACCORDING TO MAGAZINES and trend hopping pussies like Metallica and Def Leppard, but I was still hearing great solos by bands like Maiden and Opeth. ;)

There's almost always a place for a guitar solo. :)

Re: new gear test: metal / thrash. using line 6 podfarm presets, reamping?

nice tones and production...wished you would have recorded a solo over top...

Thanks for listening and the comments, Im glad this short test clip passes muster for my general demo purposes.

Ive been contemplating the purpose of solos; Im coming around; I usually am listening to my Sabbath/Kyuss/Monster Magnet MP3s which have solos in most of the songs, so Im prolly gonna keep soloing in most my songs too since my stuff is guitar riff based rock.

Now I need to get work on developing a song out of this short clip ;)
