New Gibson Customs launched!

Re: New Gibson Customs launched!

Glad to see something new from the Gibby boys. Looks like what some other brands have done to not look like a Gibson but have some of the flare or traditional appeal of a Gibby. Still prefer the classic DC, particularly Hamer's. Those Chicago built axes were built so freekin well IMHO.

Hard cold reality... there's no such thing as an original design anymore. You're not going to come up with something that is at all practical and hasn't already been done.

Re: New Gibson Customs launched!

As for the upper fret access, I wonder if the new heel contour makes it easier than the pics make it look. I don't use the higher register beyond the 17th fret that much and it's not that critical for players like me.

i can't see how that would help... your hand is still going to run smack into the body before you get to the top.

Re: New Gibson Customs launched!

the EVH is a better realization of that design. Better access, 22 frets, and what looks like a smaller body (hard to tell).

Just saying that sometimes the contour makes a bigger difference than one might expect. I'm sure it also depends on the player's hand too. On my LP the access would be improved by a similar heel joint closer to the cutaway like this. Seriously considering taking a rasp to it and make it more comfortable.

In my very strong opinion an LP neck heel is a terrible design. To be honest I can't see how a single cutaway EVER made sense on a solidbody guitar...
