New Gibson LP Std Upgrades

First post for me after lurking for a while. Recently bought a new Gibson LP Std, http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPNSTDPTSCH/specs
Just wondering about what might be a reasonable first upgrade to fix my tinkering habit. The tronics came with a PC board and plastic plugins for connections. Tone pro hardware Schaller locking tuners, synthetic nut so maybe the nut would get first dibs on being upgraded. I have some Chinese bone nuts have not used yet.

Honestly, that is one beautiful guitar.

If this were my guitar, I would get her home and play her awhile before I would start thinking about changing out parts. This should give a good baseline for where to start.

Please remember that those pickups are adjustable. Don't like the highs, twirl down a screw or two a couple of turns and try again.

When you find a problem or something that you can't live with, then explore your options.

And a pro set up can solve many problems.

Welcome.

Set it up and play. I only upgrade as needed. That philosophy has served me well.

That's a Les Paul Standard, mate. Why don't you get to know her before you start changing things?

Play it for a while. It's a Gibson and though I am not a fan boy. I am sure it would have quality hardware and electronics. Once you've played it for a while you would know what it lacks for you tonally.

New Gibson LP Std Upgrades

I just bought a 2015 Standard, thinking with my OCD I'd end up tinkering and upgrading everything. After having it for 4 months, I added a G Force tuning system (the guitar came with the titanium nut so it was a drop in replacement, the system works great), added Schaller strap locks (mandatory), then just adjusted the pickup height and action to taste. I also added tonepros locking studs to anchor the tailpiece down.

That's all it needed. I like the burstbuckers, They're versatile but can be bright- just adjust the treble and presence on your amp, they're really good pickups.

You also have the dip switches which will allow you to make mods.

If I were to change anything, I'd change the nut to a Tusq XL. If you drop them on a table, they ping very musically, unlike the titanium but on mine-but I'd hold up on a new guitar

My newest guitar is the same exact model and finish, but a 2008.

You don't need to do anything except give it a perfect setup, which may include cleaning up the nut slots so you hear no ping when tuning. There's no need to change anything else, unless you hate the sound of the pickups.

Honestly, modding Gibsons does nothing but lower their resale value. Your guitar even comes with high quality locking tuners and hardware.

Re: New Gibson LP Std Upgrades

Did it ship with 9's? Gibsons always used to come with 10's, but my 2016 50's Tribute came with Cleartone 9's.

Yeah....its pretty much clear from the above.

But it is very foolish to look to the first upgrade before you really know whether anything needs it.

Re: New Gibson LP Std Upgrades

Straplocks.. Setup...play.. only bad thing with the pc board models, is if you don't like the pickups, you can only try one or two other Gibson models. Otherwise have to gut all the electronics and redo.

Congrats on the beautiful guitar and welcome!

Im a notorious guitar tweaker. Often to my detriment. And hanging out here sometimes fuels it..

Ive been tweaking most of my life, and posting in a tweaker's paradise....

Actually you don't have to gut the electronics- you can go on EBay and get quick connect adapters to plug any 4 conductor pickup into your guitar
