New Gibson Model

Re: New Gibson Model

Is it a flat-top? Kind of hard to tell from the pics.

If so, it's simply a more-boring version of the Gibson Vegas that was made for a year or two recently and discontinued.

Re: New Gibson Model

Oh, I like that a lot. The white speed knobs look like ****, though. Plus the pickup selector seems to be in a pretty awkward place. I'd rock it anyway.

Re: New Gibson Model

meh...

i expected something that doesn't look like a les paul?

You expected correctly, then!

I like this colour....

Re: New Gibson Model

This is the same shtick they pulled a few years ago.

They want a mid-priced Semi-hollow they can pump out of the Nashville plant, where they aren't outfitted to do arch-top laminates like the ES series. That's why you get these "carved" maple (i.e. not multi-ply laminate) flat-top semi-hollows.

Gibson Vegas, which imho was a lot more interesting, was the same thing:

And that's not to say they can't be good guitars. I've never played one of these flat-top models to know. I suspect it'd feel something like a cross between an LP Special and a Thinline tele.

Re: New Gibson Model

These look pretty interesting. I would love an es-339 with a bigsby on it and this seems pretty close. Just wish it had the two volume/ two tone setup as the 339.

Here's another pic since I copied the link before seeing anyone elses post. Looks a lot better than, let say...SG ZOOT ?

Yes, much better than an SG Zoot Suit or Reverse V. But that Bigsby's too much, too big and clunky. They only saved a few dollars by going to 2 knobs (instead of 4); why do it? They're selling LP and SG Specials for under a grand with 4 knobs.

I'd like to see this with a full-size 335 body.

Re: New Gibson Model

The orange version needs TV Jones Classic Filter'Tron replica pickups and insane tone control switches in silly locations on the upper bout.

Re: New Gibson Model

Isn't that called the Dot Studio when it is made by Epiphone?

Except Epiphone's is way cooler and a grand cheaper?

Re: New Gibson Model

The Dot Studio is larger, an archtop, and made of laminated, iirc, maple, and doesn't have a Bigsby.

But they both have only two knobs, so yeah, totally the same.

Re: New Gibson Model

Not a fan of the bigsby, but it's a decent price for a Gibson with full binding. The Vegas was better - I don't know why they discontinued it.

Nobody bought them.

They're all sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

They should think about clearing a space in there for these things.
