New Gibsons at GC

Re: New Gibsons at GC

No, it's right to do it. GC is owned by some gawdawful investment group, sales people get no significant commission unless they sell a million warrantee packages and the whole place is probably just a showroom for online retail anyway.

I end up buying stuff there from time to time, though, especially guitars.

One of the salesman at the GC in Greenville, SC really pushed the warranty package on me...I told him no 5 times in a row that I didn't want it and he kept pushing. That was the last time I bought anything there. The ones here in Atlanta have some cool guys and they just ask once about the warranty and then proceed with the sale. But the gear just all feels grimy...I still visit them for used gear but am not interested in buying new from them.

Re: New Gibsons at GC

Is it wrong of me to do this...I check gear out at GC but quit buying gear from them. Everything here in the Atlanta area, including the nice acoustics, all look used and like 100's of grubby hands have been all over it...

I often do the same, but if they have one in the back unopened that's the same I'll have them bring it out and give it a try. But, I also have a really good GC by me with good employees that have been there a long time and know me

Re: New Gibsons at GC

To me, the problem with new Gibsons is that some genius decided to put a brass nut on them and have a 4 year old sign Les Paul with a gold magic marker. And then, they assumed everyone wanted a big ugly set of auto tuners, a widened neck, and a circuit board in the electronic cavity.

2014 + Gibsons......NO THANKS! 1990 - 2011 are the only ones I'll consider anymore.

BIG +1.

Definitely a good idea on an unplayed/unopened box...I quit looking for new electrics as I love going the Warmoth route. lol I do look at Acoustics though, but was pretty turned off when I picked up an almost $3,000 Martin with a dent in the top and a neck that felt very sticky. :argh:
