In fact, it would be simple to create a HH Big Apple Strat from that era with just about any American Standard Strat. All you need is a HH Guard, a PG+ in the bridge and a 59n in the neck.

I think you should know that looking closely at the photos you posted of the different models messed with my head and now the middle pickup placement looks wrong to me on every sss Strat I see! You mentioned the spacing and I was all "what's he talking about? Oh..." and now that has been seen and can't be unseen.

Oddly, still looks fine to me on hss and hsh Strats, though.

Nice, I always liked those. My Sambora has the Texas Specials in the neck and middle and I like the way they sound. I did end up swapping the stock humbucker for a PAF Master to better match the output though. It also ended up cleaning up some fuzziness in mids from the bridge humbucker at the same time.
