New Guitar Day - Tele goodness

so, one of my students has been after a Strat for a long time. I found an 87 Strat Plus - mint - at the local GC and got him a great deal on it. It was graffiti yellow, gold lace sensor pickups, wilkinson nut, NO STRING TREES, vintage case, TBX control........he needed to get rid of his tele to justify his gear lust to his wife. i asked if hed be willing to trade for extra lessons and he agreed!!! YES!
So, here is my new tele. I believe it's a 2001 - no idea what kind. is it standard? ash? it is made in the USA and also has a molded case that is just great!
all i need now is a strat, a rick, a 335 and i'm set!!

well, he needed to sell one to justify.....we've all been there (or at least most of us have). he has a few guitars - including a nice old Fender Lead 1 - I traded 10 1 hours lessons plus some freebies for him and his son.
He told me he was going to sell so i flat out said, well, i'd LOVE to have your Tele but this is what I can do. He said he'd rather me have it than trade it at GC or sell it on eBay/CL so we did the deal. Very nice guy. It's a great guitar....

judging by the photos it looks like ash for sure... Fender offers the current American Standard in Ash for a $150 up charge..... nuts.... since when is Ash $150 more then Alder for a single body!

yeah, looks like that "budget ash line" they made for strats and teles. not bad guitars. like $275 off the shelf as I recall.

The MIM Ash Teles are $449 (or were before the recent price hikes).

Also I would say that looks like a Standard US Ash Tele, if thats what it is, it is upwards of $1100 off the shelf...
