New guitar: I haz it (CS-336 content)

It's lovely. Terrible finish - solid black over flame maple so it's sunk into the flame leaving a weird ripple - I'm almost certainly getting it refinished early next year in a dark trans black. The original owner exchanged the 57 Classics for some Bareknuckle P90s which will be staying, and removed the scratchplate, which will be going back on.

Enjoy.

Anyone know if anyone makes nice chrome or black tuner knobs?

Nice score. How does it sound at loud volumes? I've heard that a 336 can sound very "hollow" at gig levels. Just wondering if it's true.

Black over a flame top? They must have screwed up at some point.

It's a beautiful guitar as it is though. Congrats!

I've not tried it that loud yet, but it seems to respond like a 335 - lovely controllable feedback.

Aye - as I understand it the black ones are meant to have plain tops.

It's a beautiful guitar as it is though. Congrats!

Thanks! Sadly it looks better in photos than in real life - the ripple just looks silly. Relatively easily fixed though. :)

I didn't know they even made that guitar in black. Are you sure it wasn't just refinished by the previous owner?

Very nice!!!!

Gibson paint job rejects get painted Ebony, I've seen it may times before.

I have a 359. I love it as semi hollows are my favorite Humbucker type of guitar. Mine sounds and plays great. The 57 classics work well in these style guitars.

Awesome axe! I like the finish in pictures --- and it's vibe is RAD!

Definitely not, and he bought it new.

The refinish should make it look in person like it does in the pictures - the black/grey flame effect you can sort-of-see in the photos is actually a reflection of the grey backdrop. In person it's just black and rippled.

Re: New guitar: I haz it (CS-336 content)

looks good AS IS, to me.

If it looked in person as it does in the photos I'd be perfectly happy with the finish, but it does not.

As I've said, it is a solid black finish with a hefty ripple - the black/grey flamed appearance in the photos is because alternate ripples are reflecting either the black sidedrop or the grey backdrop.

Just to clarify, it doesn't look in person as it does in the pictures. If it did I'd not even consider a refin.

Those guitare look amazing. They just look so well proportioned, compared to a 335 for instance. Perfect size for a semi, as I'm not a huge guy. I'd love one of the 336s/339s in transparent blue over flame maple...

Re: New guitar: I haz it (CS-336 content)

I generally like my guitars blue, but I'm not sure it'd work with the cream binding on this'un.

Re: New guitar: I haz it (CS-336 content)

NICE!

I recently got an ES-339. Feels about identical to a CS-336, but sounds pretty different due to the arched laminate vs. solid carved construction.

GREAT feeling guitar, though.

Play in good health - I look forward to seeing the eventual refin as well.

Re: New guitar: I haz it (CS-336 content)

The blue would look fine w/ a cream binding (imo)....Go for it! but in the meantime play some of that old finish off! that thing is sweet! Can't wait to see how it turns out, whatever you decide!
