New Guitar/Pickups

Re: New Guitar/Pickups

Just to set the record straight, if you buy a brand new Duncan pickup from an authorized dealer, there is a 21 day exchange policy from the date you buy. You can either return the pickup to the dealer for an exchange, or send it back to SD direct for an exchange.

Re: New Guitar/Pickups

But doesn't the Jackson DK2M come with Seymour Duncan pickups?
JB in the bridge and Classic Stacks neck and middle. I think they've
updated them in the new product catalog.

Re: New Guitar/Pickups

Kirk's sound is with EMG active pickups (which model I'm not sure), so why are you going to try to emulate it with a wah if you want a Dimebucker bridge? Just get stuff that you like how it sounds. Kirk's sound isn't for everyone, neither is Dime's.

What are you doing here exactly? Buying Kirk's guitar, Dime's pickups and you want to sound like who? (BTW Kirk uses EMG 81s). If you ask me kirk's sound and Dime's is way to bright. Save your money, go to ebay, find a Schecter C1 Classic and deal with out a floyd. You will thank me later. no floyd = easy to down tune, which if you ever slightly thinking about playing Dime's stuff you will have to do. No question. That dude was the king of down tuning. Metallica has a lot of down tuned stuff as well. Hell just to play around with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera and a few others you will need to change tunnings like you hopefully change your underwear! You can not buy a better guitar for the money than a C1 Classic.

Re: New Guitar/Pickups

Let me rephrase that. I want a wah that you can actually hear on the g,b, and e strings. My current wah only sounds good on the E,A, and D strings.

Re: New Guitar/Pickups

I got a bad horsey II and love it. But I don't use it much. If you buy a Dunlop wah you will most likely have to adjust the range on it to get a better feel.

No problem bro :D

I don't use individual wah: I have a Boss ME-50, but I love how the "expression pedal" (i.e. the !@#$ wah :D) has a very close sweep pattern to a standard wah pedal. Don't think about using the GT-8's expression pedal for that: it has a lot less play.

But anyways, yeah, just so we can help you better, tell us exactly, in a LOT of detail, what you're looking for in sound, in a guitar, in pickups, etc. What gear do you already own, etc?

There's NOTHING wrong with being picky, so just tell us what you want, and how firm you are on it (i.e. if you MUST have a floyd rose, tell us that :D)

Re: New Guitar/Pickups

I want a FR. I play metal, rock mostly Metallica, Sabbath, Pantera, Nirvana, etc. I play in standard tuning all of the time. I have decided to get the KH-202.

I have a Boss DS-1, Metal Zone, Arion chorus, (soon to get original dunlop wah, line 6 spider III 15w amp)

I want a pickup that is clear, sounds good palm muting, good harmonics, and good cleans.

Re: New Guitar/Pickups

The ESP pickups in there are basically HZ H4s but without the quick connect.

The neck is painted on the KH-202/3s

Sounds clear, good palm muting, good cleans, good harmonics, yet for metal? Hmm. I'm not sure if that pickup exists, but it sounds sort of like the Full Shred. The JB isn't necessarily clear-sounding, but it is nice for harmonics, palm mute. It won't do the EMG ultra-acoustic-sounding cleans, however, but maybe the Full Shred will? A little help, FS / Invader owners?

I know the Custom isn't going to necessarily be ultra-clean, just in case you're wondering. I don't own a Custom, I own a Custom Custom, but since it's the same coil, and with Alnico II it still sounds muddy, I'd guess (notice the word "guess") that the Custom isn't going to be as clear as you want.

Have you tried listening to the clips of the JB, Full Shred, and Jazz bridge models? I'm not sure the JB will be as clean as you'd like (but for Megadeth it's the right pickup for the job), but the Full Shred might be more clear, and the Jazz bridge is guaranteed to be clear.
